found an interesting article about him. http://www.consortiumnews.com/2000/121700a.html[^] while i'm sure Bush-lovers will chafe at the first few paragraphs (an editorial comment about the 2000 election), the rest of the article seems essentially factual, and contains a good deal from Powell's own book, the Iran-contra investigations and a lot of stuff from other mainstream sources. reading this really makes me wonder why the press and Congress both fellate the guy as much as they do; he's anything but the model of a modern major-general. -c

KaЯl wrote: but if it's one of your creations, congratulation, nice effort I wish! No, it is a famous English culture song. It is meant to be sung very fast, which is hard to do. Just trying singing this fast: "I am the very model of a modern Major-General" All those Ms trip one up. It comes from the play The Pirates of Penzance, very famous. Hilarious when a good actor/singer does it right. KaЯl wrote: You have this in common with Julius Caeser to speak about yourself using the 3rd person I will take that as a good thing and ignore how he died... *Paul reads up on Julius* ;) I promise though, I hardly ever talk about myself in the 3rd person in "real life."

What did Powell do in Vietnam? What was his role in the Iran-contra scandal? How did he rise so smoothly as a black man in a white-dominated Republican national security establishment? Were Powell's victories in Panama and Iraq excessively violent and insufficiently concerned with civilian dead? Almost believable until he slipped in the race issue.
