[rant] I had a project due last week where my group was supposed to share graphics code and nothing else. So, like a good boy, I give my input on the graphics and do the rest of the code myself. And then the 4th person in our group decides to show up about 14 hours before the program is due, which just happended to be about the time I'm finishing. They haven't even started. So I, like a retard, said to myself, "Well, we shared graphics code and there's only one function that isn't graphics code" and decided to sent her all of my code, telling her specifically which parts she could and could not use. Then I just find out today from the TA that she plagiarized my code. She's a PhD student that teaches a C++ class for crying out loud! He docked both of us 20% on the project (rather lenient IMO but still). Why can't people just do their own damned work!*insert Jack the Ripper emoticon here* [/rant] Brad Jennings "if the golden arches shut shop, where else are the VB people going to get work." - Colin Davies

Thats what I loved about studing Physics; none of that group project BullShit. Thats not to say that we didn't work / study together quite a bit. In fact most of us tutored each other on the points we knew best. A much better system in IMO. "Veni, Vidi, Booyah!" - Ceasar

Yeah, I know what you mean, I generally like to work on a project by myself, I usually get more work done. Not to say I don't like working in groups, as long as I can get along with and trust my group members. Sometimes it's more fun to work in a group, especially if you know your group members (basically the first 3 members in the group above). Plagarism sucks.:mad::mad: I'm guessing its your word against hers otherwise if you have any documented proof, I would advise you to appeal the TA's decision. Even though you showed her the code, you are not truly guilty. I'd be utterly pissed off with this. Failing that, I'd publish her name everwhere arround the campus as a plaguarizer. Put it up on the board for her C++ class to see etc. One thing that continues to peeve me is that so many people manage to go through the full academic system without doing any original work and playing office politics all the way.:mad::mad: Regardz Colin J Davies

I've already emailed the TA and I have at least two witnesses that saw me write the code myself so I'm pretty sure I can get my points back. I'm also going to go talk to the TA later this week to get things straightened out. As for the person who plagiarized my code, she can go to hell, I don't trust her anymore. Plagiarism pisses me off, I work hard for my grade and so should everybody else. Brad Jennings "if the golden arches shut shop, where else are the VB people going to get work." - Colin Davies

Excellent attitude !! I don't know your institution, but most of them have appropriate procedures for this sort of thing, and since you have witnesses you should be on firm ground. My University's policy was that the person who allowed their work to be copied was just at fault as the person who did the copying (and would punish both equally.) I.e. You showed the other party your work, which is against the plagiarism rules. -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

Maybe she was just following the lead of the British government. They plagiarized the work of a graduate student in California and other published articles to create their recent report on Iraqi misdeeds. The plagiarized work was even praised by Colin Powell at the U.N. last week. Corruption starts at the top and flows downhill.

Sadly "thos who can't, teach" has found another proof. Sorry to hear. plagiarism: to flatter your predecessors, by quoting them, and flatter your auditory by assuming they know it's a quote. a delicate and thoughtful art indeed. obviously I never get tired of saying this...

Interesting definition, never heard it described that way. I'll have to remember that one.
