Setting lang attribute to xml

Setting the
lang
attribute of a<pre>
tag to xml results in broken code. Setting it to html resolves the issue. This issue shows up after publishing an article but not in an article preview."As beings of finite lifespan, our contributions to the sum of human knowledge is one of the greatest endeavors we can undertake and one of the defining characteristics of humanity itself"

Can you please send a link to the article with which you're seeing the issue? XML and HTML actually use exactly the same colourisation rules.
