I have a carton of eggs. Turns out there is only one egg in it. It's still a carton of eggs. ;) OK, back to work. :^)

You have two dogs. One dies. Do you still have dogs?

 But you're referring to the container not the contents. If I had 2 dog houses, and one dog dies, I still have 2 dog houses. Just messing with you.

:) It offends my OCD though. In this case, he has one dog house that used to contain two dogs, and it now only contains one dog.

No. Then it would have been Feature Forum with 2 forums. He had dog houses.

You mean I'm the only one who says carton of egg?

Interesting syntactical question. I think the answer is "it depends": If we define "have" in the narrow terms of "currently own" then it depends if you still own the dead dog. Even if Rover has been interred somewhere, is he still technically your property? If we define it more broadly "[from time-to-time] I have dogs" then the plural stands (and possibly sits, stays and does "paws").This is a bit like me saying I foster dogs. Usually I don't foster multiple animals at the same time, and at the moment I have no foster animals. However, the statement "I foster dogs" is still a reasonable one to make. I guess if the target is never going to own another dog AND he no longer possesses his deceased best friend than it should be singular. :)
Life is like a s**t sandwich; the more bread you have, the less s**t you eat.

That's not a question anyone here is willing to touch.
