Are you guys planning on doing something about the fact that any article, no matter how bad it is, written by an author from India, gets tons of 5 star votes from other members from India just because author is from India, which skews the article score and misleads other members?

You need to raise this with the admins, not here: we have no access to the database which would prove or disprove your conjecture. However, neither do you - so any claims of racial bias in article voting are likely to be seen as a racist attitude rather than realistic. But feel free to ask the admins. Let's assume there is a "friends and family" (or whatever) bias in voting. What would you suggest we do? 1. Ban votes from those who share similar attributes (same IP, same city, same country?) 2. Mark votes as having a certain attribute (has same IP, has same country etc) 3. Ban rating altogether for articles from certain demographics?

So I raise a legitimate question about something that is clear to anyone reading the articles and you immediately accuse me of racism!? Last I checked India was a country, not a race and there is nothing racist about my question.
Let's just discuss options to find possible solutions instead of letting this devolve.

How about a system which will allow us to flag people who are submitting high rating votes to what is clearly a poor quality article and filter their votes out of overall article rating?
The problem is you can't see who's voting. If we opened that (and we're discussing it currently) then what you're suggesting is a system that says "if you don't agree with me then I'll report you". That's a little off. I get what you're trying to accomplish. What about thinking about it a different way: The friends of the author want to give him a pat on the back. Why not allow people to a) vote on the technical merits of an article (and restrict that to high ranking authors / experts) b) give someone a pat on the back (and open this up to everyone)

There was nothing racist about my question. I said "authors from India" as in country of India not Indian race and that was clear to any unbiased reader so why did you not react to his post accusing me of racism?
Calm down :) OriginalGriff didn't accuse you of racism. He wrote *"claims of racial bias in article voting are likely to be seen as a racist attitude"* and surely he meant that it would be seen as racist attitude of the site/its admins if something was done along the lines of not counting votes from Indian users.

I see a problem around this '5-voting-on-poor-article' issue... I may think an article is poor, but the very same time a beginner will find it extremely useful... So the only reason to oppose those votes is when the article has false information, and in this case it may be reported in one of the forums... I can't see how you can tell apart those who found useful a lower level article and those who vote for a friend... (Maybe hiding the reputation points - and keeping them only as aid for the yearly MVP list - can help :-))

I agree that occasionally very poor quality posts immediately get comments of praise and positive votes. Sometimes it is hard to see why an article was approved. Yes it smells. What rule could you possibly apply to eliminate what is after all just a perception that skulduggery is afoot?

I didn't get you. How 'India' is involved here? We've seen a lot of content where this was the case even country was different. It may be the case that most of the Articles you went through belongs to Indian Authors,but also try to find non Indian ones,you will see it's everywhere. I mean, forget the particular country, it is something to do with system which is very hard/complex/not much effective/foolproof.
