Finnish music has never been very big in Sweden, and probably not outside of Finland either. Either it's lack of talent, or bad promotion, I don't know. However, if you take the time, you'll find that the Finns seem to be quite capable of making good music. One Finnish metal band which I've found to be extremely good is Nightwish. It's a pseudo-gothic metal band with mixed male and female (dominant) vocals. The album Century Child is really good. Christian, if you haven't listened to Nightwish before, try it out. I have a feeling you'll like it. :) -- Shine, enlighten me - shine Shine, awaken me - shine Shine for all your suffering - shine

The whole Century Album totally rocks. I haven't listened much to the older ones, but at a first "glance", they too seemed to be of very high quality. -- Shine, enlighten me - shine Shine, awaken me - shine Shine for all your suffering - shine

while they're not really "metal", does Soundtrack Of Our Lives get much play in Sweden? i played their last album to death last summer - it rocks. i heard one of their songs (Sister Surround) on a local corporate rock station a few weeks ago. i almost drove off the road, so great was my surprise. hearing a song on this kind of station, from a band that isn't at least 20 years old is rare enough that i suspect the guy who put it on was fired on the spot. -c

I don't listen much to mainstream radio nor do I watch MTV. I'm probably 5 years behind everybody else. :-D I have heard the name mentioned though in media, and I believe I read a review in one of our newspapers some time ago, and it got good critique. Maybe I should give it a chance. :) Unfortunately, there are not many radio stations here in Sweden which doesn't broadcast mainstream pop trash (i.e. Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, or whatever is hip for the moment). The state owned radio station P3 as a broad selection of music though, but I hardly ever listen to it other than when I drive to my parents. That usually happens on friday evenings, and that's unfortunately the rap happy hour or whatever. Unfortunately I don't live in a major city, thus I don't have access to niched radio stations. I think I'll fire up soulseek and see what the fuzz is all about. :) Chris Losinger wrote: from a band that isn't at least 20 years old is rare enough that i suspect the guy who put it on was fired on the spot I take that as a pretty damn good review. ;) -- Shine, enlighten me - shine Shine, awaken me - shine Shine for all your suffering - shine
