All those people who were talking of hundreds of thousands of dead civilians? The US has been bombing the crap out of Baghdad for almost a week and the f***ing street lights are still on! Apparantly the water and sewage are still working too! Reports from the first night of bombings (from the Iraqis no less) indicate 4 civilians were killed. (and one of those was from the terrorist organization that hijacked the Achille Lauro years ago - threw a wheelchair bound septegenarian into the ocean:mad::(( - hardly an innocent:mad: ) I have seen other reports that indicate the US Apache pilots were shot down because they were not allowed to return fire because the troops firing at them were on top of a residential building. The US is targetting the Iraqi leaders and military and going a long way out of its way to avoid civilians. They should be careful or they might ruin their image as baby killers. Dave Huff Igor would you give me a hand with the bags? Certainly - you take the blonde and I'll take the one in the turban!

We had the same insanely stupid restrictions in the Vietnam war. You should read some of the narratives from pilots in that war. Personally, I think it's pretty stupid to be doing the fake surrenders and dressing as civilians, because that's simply going to put *real* civilians in more danger than were already in. And despite the fact that I don't like the idea of killing everyone in site because they aren't wearing an american uniform, you can't really blame the soldiers for widening their definition of "enemy forces". On the other hand, I'd rather see that happen than to see one of our guys get killed. Believe it or not, I don't think Bush had enoough reason to start the war (yet), but since he has, they should let the troops do what they were sent to do. The plain fact of the matter is that people on both sides are gonna die. If the Iraqi civilians had half a brain, they'd simply leave bagdad before the place becomes a real and indiscriminate killing zone. ------- signature starts "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 Please review the Legal Disclaimer in my bio. ------- signature ends

The purpose of the fake surrenders is exactly to provoke the Americans into some kind of retaliation. Then get it on TV and out to the Iraqi military and show that surrendering to the US will just get you killed. Suddenly the 10-20% of the soldiers who wouldn't have fought are suddenly holding out to the end. I think the American restraint in this war has so far been astonishing. I hope they get Saddam, his sons, and the leaders of the Baath party soon so that no one else has to die in this. Dave Huff Igor would you give me a hand with the bags?
