We were in London on Saturday and there was another "Stop the war" protest. Someone was screaming and shouting that the day had cost the city £30 Million. Who knows how correct or incorrect he was, but I would like to know exactly where this cash comes from.

I think it's the loss incurred due to so many people not working. Say n people with an average salary of x per day didn't come to work because of it, so the total loss would be n * x. Can someone tell me if I am right?

I think partly that, partly policing, etc. There were police helicopters flying above the city, as well as many officers on foot. As for business, we were almost denied our wors rolls! Hmmm... think far away from home and someone steals your one chance of getting some chicken korma naan :) The police didn't want us going down the alley to the SA shop, they even went so far as to lie to us and tell us it was closed. My husband and I cunningly slipped through while our poor friend got caught. Luckily for him there was more wors than could possibly be eaten by only 2 people... Anyway, back to the topic in hand. The shop had been wondering why business was so quiet, I wonder if people like that can make a claim for lost business?

The way I heard it was explained was that the city has to pay extra officers to be on duty, above and beyond those who would normally work. And they have to pay overtime to boot. Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

How much are they gonna spend on re-construction? They spend $75 bill on demolishing it and I assume they will probably spend about $5 bill rebuilding. Seems like a fair trade to me :suss: Isn't there stuff to spend $75billion on in the US? I'm sure hospitals, schools etc... would love that kind of money.

My point is, at this time in the democratic process, we have no choice. No choice but to keep protests peaceful(there is a choice not to protest irresponsibly though, or too excess), No choice, but to produce a "$600,000 a cruise missile", since the war has already started. It seems as though the democratic process has come and gone, and replaced by bureaucracy, IMO. Later,
