Farking news today ... Resolution asking for fasts and prayers to support the US troops[^] I this really true ? Is this necessary ? Why would a government need to pass such a resolution ? Is there supposed to be some sort of separation between the church and the state ?

Just like they vote on National Blue Antennaed Ant Day, and A Day of Recognition in Observance of the Acknowledgement of the Recoginition of Observed Days. Apparently a fair amount of time is wasted in Congress thanking people, and recognizing people, and scratching some lobbyists back, etc. not analyzing real laws or the budget, etc.. This one at least seems to have some tradition to it, even though the Red Tape of discussing it officially this way in Congress seems a bit over the top to me. Like "back in the old days" when armies would stop fighting to have a spot of tea and game of cricket. Then resume right afterwards. Very civilised I say. What, what.

Maximilien wrote: I this really true Sure is Maximilien wrote: Is this necessary Not for you or I probably Maximilien wrote: Why would a government need to pass such a resolution A government that is supposed to represent the people should represent its views, and there is surely a group of people who support this view. Maximilien wrote: Is there supposed to be some sort of separation between the church and the state Thats a matter of much debate, the Constitution says that the government won't form a state religion. The idea in most peoples mind being that there is freedom for people to observe whatever religous practice they might have without the government compelling them to observe (or not) any one particular religion. Another school of thought is that there should be a seperation of Church and State wher religion has absoulutely no place in government. That seems to be the freedom "from" religion view. Personnaly I figure its like most things, if done in moderation it doesn't hurt anything. A little sensitivity to other poeoples views seems to go oalong way.
