hacking. The ultimate weapon would be hacking into guidance systems, and making it go somewhere else. That way you don't need any WMD. Enemy launches a missile, and it goes back at them. My article on a reference-counted smart pointer that supports polymorphic objects and raw pointers

No. I was thinking more like - Has the patriot missile system been hacked? But, if pulled off, conevntional weapons become very significant. Military would think twice before launching a guided weapon. My article on a reference-counted smart pointer that supports polymorphic objects and raw pointers

How do you hack something that isn't connected to a network? It's not like a Patriot missle is connected to the internet while in-flight. The only way I can see to 'hack' a missle guidance system is if the missle commands are sent via radio-frequencies to the missle while in-flight OR you hack the missle-launcher before it fires. ------------------------------------------ "What happened in that Rhode Island club is shocking. I did not mean hacked through the Internet. Obviously militaries do not depend on such things. Patriot systems (not the missile, the base system that decides whether to fire or not), in my understanding, depnd on signals beamed down by satellites. If the system gets incorrect data, it will react incorrectly. So, if the signal is modified to simulate an enemy weapon system, you could end up targetting something entirely different. The systems use very high level of encryption and other techniques to prevent even an interception; but the enemies are not script kiddies - they are expert scientists working on that. I don't think the track v missile guidance system that the Patiot uses would be able to discover static targets. AFAIK Most of the Patriots use one of three modes auto, semi or manual, in auto mode I don't think they could be hacked. However since the launching station and enagagement comtrol station are seperated this must cause a risk. And I think they are connected by Fibre which means that the communications aren't 100% secure. Due to the complexity of the Patriot system there must be windows of opportunities, but not for kiddie scripters. Regardz Colin J Davies

So if I were to buy a dozen or so microwaves, bypass the door mechanism and have them on, and on my roof pointing upwards, I should be safe :-)

Actually, the newest ones aren't even explosive. They are "hit to kill" depending only on kinetic energy. Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped. - Elbert Hubbard
