Please Help. I want to know if I should buy a NE555n timer or a Ne555p IC. Can I do the same things with each? Is there much difference? Here is the date sheet NE555n date sheet: http://www.componentschip.com/details/Fairchild-Semiconductor/NE555N.html Ne555p date sheet: http://www.componentschip.com/details/Texas-Instruments/NE555P.html Thank you guys,

There should be no difference. These letters after the IC type are used by the manufacturers to differentiate between the available versions (usually package type, operating temperature range, and accuracy). With the TI type, the "P" indicates the PDIP package (normal leads, not SMD) with commercial temperature range (0 to 70°C). Source: ne555.pdf[^] Similar seems to apply for the Fairchild type while they use the "N" specifier. But there is no actual data sheet for NE555 type but only the LM555 where the corresponding type is LM555CN (LM555.pdf[^]). It seems that the type has been renamed (old data sheets are tagged as "LM555/NE555/SE555"). To be sure you have to compare the data sheets yourself. But this should not be necessary for a hobby project.
