    While I was at the ISO C++ Meeting (see message below), I was able to corner Jon Caves of Microsoft, and asked from what's happening with VC7: Lot's of .NET support (naturally) Lot's of code generation enhancements (handles P3 and 3D instruction sets). covariant return types (finally!) correct for() scoping (finally!) Lot's a small fixes to templates, but still no partial specialization (that would require changing thier name mangling scheme, which would prevent the Systems folks from recompiling win2000. Jon says that should be worked out in some 7.x release

        He didn't give any....Of course, he's a programmer, not a marketer, so he probably doesn't know. He did say that the next MSDN update will include the beta

            I have asked microsoft sales about when VC++ 7.0 Will be released and I was told first quarter of 2001. So My guess will be about March 2001.
