Why can I only format code in the article wizard as a code block?

The code blocks are surrounded by
pretags. Here, in this editor, I can select a word or expression and clickvarto surround it withcodetags, which are inline. Why can't I do this in the article wizard without always having to switch to HTML view and manually code it? Problem solved, but I leave this here in case it helps anyone else. I didn't see the tiny button on the formatting toolbar. This is the same as the
