How do you get a police state ? You let people in power do what they want. Its up to the voters in the US to pick canidates who will do something instead of deciding between two clones. Elaine :rose: The tigress is here :-D

The current two party system along with lobbyists, PACs, campaign finance, etc... needs to change. Sadly, I doubt I'll see any significant change in my lifetime. Here's a question to everyone who thinks GWB is doing a good job in his War on Terror (of course I will accept answers from anyone): Q: Can such a war end? 1: If so, how? 2: If not, does that mean the US will be "at war" forever? 3: Many people are using the "we're at war" excuse for restricting freedoms and/or choosing unusual interpretations of the laws regarding detainment, trial and evidence. Does a permanent state of war mean we can expect these abuses to become the norm? 4. Is this acceptable? 5. Clay or Rueben? -c

I think GWB is doing an average job on the "War on Terror". IMO he should do a lot less talking to the press/public and a lot more international diplomacy. #1 - The "war" can end once ALL of the first world countries decide terrorism has to end and takes it seriously. Whether this will ever happen is another story. IMO the culture clash is too great and a concensus will never be reached. The UN is a waste of time and money to this end. #2 - As long as the US exists there will be people that want to hurt/kill it. That is true of every nation. We live in dangerous times with no great world-wide harmonious epiphonies on the horizon. #3 - Yes, people are generally sheep. Socialism breeds this attitude and fear nurtures it. #4 - No. #5 - I'd much rather eat a Rueben sandwich than a clay sandwich if that's what you mean. ;) Mike Mullikin

We only hate each other's "views" which are unfortunately totally opposite and differences have their roots is history. One day we have to become good friends because their is no other way to live; as Mr.Vajpaye said that friends can be changed but not neighbours. The day is not looking far when we become good friends but our traditional rivalry will remain till the end of this earth. This is what I've been saying all along. The only problem between us is related to Kashmir, isn't it? If for a moment we can forget Kashmir, there is nothing between us, eh? Rivalry and competetion are a good thing, if they remain healthy, and we can both get better and better trying to outdo each other. And it adds spice to life too. We need to solve the Kashmir issue. We've had enough politcs. We want a solution now. What do you say? As you say, we have to become friends, because there is no other way to live.
                                        Regards,

If the Israelis lay down their weapons today ther would be no Israel tomorrow. There is some history here that is relevant, but which the newpapers never seem to tell. In 1920, the population in Palestine (i.e., the area that is now Israel plus the West Bank and Gaza Strip) was roughly 90% Arab and 10% Jewish. Jews had been in a minority since around the 6th century AD. The British became administrators of Palestine in the aftermath of WWI and promoted large scale Jewish immigration with the intention of creating a Jewish homeland. This was done without consulting the existing residents and in spite of their strong opposition. To cut a long story short, by 1948 the State of Israel was proclaimed over 77% of Palestine and most of the Arab population ended up as refugees in the remaining 23% (the West Bank and Gaza Strip) or in other Arab countries. Things have only gotten worse for the Palestinian Arabs since. I don't endorse the Palestinian's tactics, but I have no problem understanding why they would be pissed off. <edit> "If the Arabs lay down their weapons today", there will be no Palestinian State tomorrow either. Most of what would have been the Palestinian State has already been taken from the Palestinians and what remains (the West Bank and Gaza Strip) is progressively being colonized by Israel. </edit> John Carson
