[Windows 11: 9 hidden changes you may have missed | Windows Central](https://www.windowscentral.com/hidden-changes-you-may-have-missed-windows-11):

...Furthermore, in this version of the OS, you will no longer be able to change the taskbar position (top, left, or right), and the option to show labels for apps is no longer available.

Whelp, that's it. Microsoft has officially lost the big picture. Unless that statement is not true. Please be not true.

Some applications you download from the Microsoft Store can continue to run in the background to provide additional functionalities, including the ability to download data in the background and show notifications. On Windows 10, the Settings app included a page to manage which applications should run in the background, but that's no longer the case in Windows 11. ... However, the feature has not been removed. You now can control this feature from within the Advanced setting of each application.

I'm thinking #1 is true, from this brain-dead decision to add more mouse clicks per change.

With as many hours as you indicated you wasted on your setup, not upgrading is just as valid of an option, if not more so!

I don't think it was wasted time/effort. None of my machines is experiencing any problems, and they haven't since I converted 3 years ago. I can only sit and watch, amused at the crap Microsoft is doing, and amazed that so many people are still using Windows.
