I recently moved slightly out of Toronto (Canada) and wanted to take my high speed (DSL) internet connection with me. The only provider of DSL in Toronto is Sympatico - all other companies that offer DSL ultimately rely on Sympatico from what I understand. I put in a move request well in advance and showed up at my new place expecting everything to work. Not so. It turns out that there was a mixup with my move request so, apparently, they did nothing - until I called - three times. I was told each time that everything should be ready soon since a technician had to go out to the central office to install a high speed card on my line. I got fed up when a customer service representative told me that it should be only another "4-5 business days" before everything is working and that I should consider ordering other phone services while I waited. Yeah, right! So, good bye Sympatico (after three years) and hello Rogers high speed on cable. Installation was a snap and they installed on a weekend! So far, I don't notice much of a difference in terms of speed and reliability (it has been only about six hours though). Thanks for listening. Anyone else in the Toronto area with similar experiences? Erik Westermann - Author

Is this another way of saying that you are not happy with your current connection? Some people here could mistake you for a communist european by saying something like that. ;) -- Now we live in a world of uncertainty Fear is the key - to what you want to be You don't get a say, the majority gets it's way You're outnumbered by the bastards till the day you die...

...the starving kid in the Civic? Hmm? What about him?!? Like being in a gutter makes you hungrier. At least maybe that kid could catch a rat, or a cool breeze blowing up from the sewers. The poor Civic kid's gotta live on what he can find in the ashtrays. :|

... but the starving kid sold his Civic to live in the "gutter" (so to speak - I'm using your analogy), so you can't feel too sorry for him ... OTOH, to be perfectly fair, there could be adverse circumstances much worse than living in the gutter that caused him to sell the Civic in the first place ... (Damn nasty situation I've gotten myself into here.)

Erik Westermann wrote: Thanks for listening. Anyone else in the Toronto area with similar experiences? Yes.:mad: I've moved all over the southern Ontario area (Toronto, Ottawa, etc), when I was using Bell. Always a problem getting the account transferred over to the new city. Easily took 2 weeks from the time the phone line was activated (even if I called Bell in advance to say that on "such and such a date, i want my account transferred"). That was just too damn complicated I assume. So, like you, I was forced to move onto Rogers. Rogers was so much better with their service, but now I still have to have the internet connection tied into something; now it's the TV instead of the phone. *sigh* Besides Rogers doesn't cap the downloads; Bell does. X| Oh well.. at least I'm not on dial-up (the horror!!!! X| X| ) Sorry Nish. :-D I prefer to wear gloves when using it, but that's merely a matter of personal hygiene [Roger Wright on VB] Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots.
