This seems to be the closest place for my question. Does the zip file format have a list of the filenames in the archive at the beginning of the file, or do I need to read the whole file to get a list of all the filenames?

I believe the contents listing is in the header. If you try to extract an archive spanned on multiple disks it always asks for disk1.

Thanks, I'll look for a zip file format documentation later today then.
