On the CNN web site there is a poll asking if you think the US will be attacked by Al Qaeda before the presidential elections. As much as I hope that never happens, I can't stop wondering who will gain from the attack, Bush or the Dems? Vote 1 for Bush 5 for Kerry (has he been nominated as yet?).

Tough to tell, a lot depends on the timing, the exact circumstances and the reaction to it. I think what happened in Spain was more due to the reaction to the attack rather than the attack itself. On the whole I think Bush would benefit so I hope the terrorist are going to be stupid and think otherwise. An attack would most likely sweep Bush back into office.

It will indicate that the billions spent on homeland security dept. would have been next to useless, and the "war on terror" has been largely misdirected towards Iraq. On the other hand it may be that US do not want to be like the Spanish example and this will cause people to purposely ignore any attack - and vote as if it never happened.

Nothing is official until the Democratic National Convention at the end of July, but yesterday's primary in Illinois put Kerry safely over the top on delegate count. How the candidates spin... err milk... err handle it. Any significant interim attacks (worldwide) between now and then. (Although, it is almost impossible to stop these kind of attacks) Kerry will lose, because if he becomes President, he's the one who'll have to look for a solution. The US voters lose, because the next AQ attack is liable to be a big one. The rest of the world loses, because if you thought the Americans were pissed after 9/11. A second attack is liable to make them bring out the big guns.
