  • Two bosses?
    B Brian Lowe

The company will expect x hours' output. Each boss will expect x/2 hours' output. In reality dividing your attention between 2 bosses goals will take y hours so your output is x-y. Each boss will get (x-y)/2 so they're both likely to be disappointed with you (unless you secretly put in the y hours at your own expense... bad idea). Jumping ship looks attractive, but only if you have somewhere to jump to. Are you in a port? Is there a suitable island within swimming distance? I don't envy your position. "Better the devil(s) you know..." vs "Out of the frying pan..." Good luck choosing.

    Work Issues question

  • Employment Odds
    B Brian Lowe

Without qualifications or an employment history the only way you'll be able to persuade an employer to take you on is by offering to work for little or nothing, at least until you have been able to prove your value. I could see a very small and informally organised company using someone who came with no paper or history but who demonstrated ability to do grunt work at a cheap rate, but not any glossy corporate partner. I was horrified recently to learn of a UK company offering "work experience" to unemployed people and charging them thousands of pounds for it - just to get 'experience' on their CV!

If the POP3 server is the same as the SMTP server then the differentiator is the port. Is there a firewall active and blocking SMTP?
