Use your Real Name Poll,Friends . All this pseudonym usage is nuts. I can't imagine a situation where I'd be afraid to not stand by my words ? Thus I consider pseudonym usage by others to be either cowardice or stirring. So I suggest all of us who use our Real names do not reply to the pseudonym users ! Regardz Colin Davies

Dundas Last MFC bundled Gold Rush ?Why is it the last ? Is it 1.) Dundas went Bust. 2.) Dundas won't do any more MFC development. 3.) After this Dundas will be flush with cash and won't need to have another goldrush. 4.) Just marketing talk ? --- Just Curious Regardz Colin Davie

You thought the billion question was bad...Paul, If I remember correctly Australia , NZ and maybe some other countries in the late 60's early 70's decided to change, However the main reason for there change was that the US had made noises that the US would change. Then the US didn't change !! - I did hear a rumour that the reason was military, as the US wished to have a "unique measurement system" . Which it does have now :-) - I guess I'm lucky to be old enough to have learn't both systems and do the easy conversions in my head. -- And calm down " Its Friday once again " Regardz Colin Davie

You thought the billion question was bad...Just Thought I'd agree with you there Michael, However what I find worse is software which requires Date Input, I find I always have to check it to work out whats happening. It's not that I find the US system Silly, But the fact that there are two opposing systems gives to confusion. Next year things might get worse when two values are asked for! eg 10/01 is it the 10th of January, October of 2001, or the first of October ? Regardz Colin Davie

What is .NET?Dotnet is a philisophical ideal .
I realise that soundz kinda blunt but consider the answer to " What is COM ? " COM is a specification .
But MS's creation of DotNet, is similar to a society creating a new set of religeous beliefs, Thus it is a Big Deal.

What is a geek?Aprox 21 yrs ago I first heard the term geek, whilst visiting Oz, on the moto-X circuit. (I was just a spectator :-) )
When I asked what a "geek" was back then. I was told . " If you take a group of any 15 guys anywhere , there is a simple rule, there's 5 good guys, 5 bad guys, 2 nerds, 2 jerks, and One geek. "
Later I discovered in an Aussie publication ( Two - Wheels Magazine ) that they had a staff writer called Phil Geek who was meant to have started this expression. --- Anyhow I never heard the expression for over 10 yrs, until it returned and was more computer orientated. --- Regardz Colin Davies -
How much is a billion?1,000,000,000 = one thousand million, So 999,000,000,000 = 9 hundred and 99 thousand million, And 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 = one thousand million billion Regard

I know how software houses feel.Chris your cynicism of the justice system is well deserved, Eg: most Cash wins, Would OJ be walking free if he didn't have a team of high priced lawyers. Or will Peter Reith in the Telecard affair ever be convicted. But as a conundrum the "DOJ vs MS" , just who has the most disposable cash in that case ?

I know how software houses feel.Gawd --- Now I'm really worrie

I know how software houses feel.Norm,
What happened to you both stinks and Sux, but unfortunatlly thats life.
Anyhow :
A while ago I was involved in an really active News Group investigating a particular technology where myself and other users often posted snippets of code.
One day a notice appeared in the NG of a new book on the technology that had been published.
The author had never been a contributor to the NG.
So naturally I immediatly ordered a copy from Amazon.
Imagine my suprise:-( and joy :-( when the book and CD arrived and it seem to contain 99 % of the code snippets that myself and others had posted.
Here we were paying money for our original code !Regardz

So why did Microsoft invest in Corel? Are you sure MS haven't gotten a major benefit from writing Windows for Mac Software ?? I had read that approx 2% of MS ' s revenue came from Mac Software Sales, Howevere that 2% revenue was far greater than Apple's Profit made from Mac sales. And that was the main reason why MS had invested in Apple !

So why did Microsoft invest in Corel? My Guess it was for a bunch of reasons rather than just 1 large reason. .... Also 135m$ isn't a large investment or even loss for MS to assimilate. .... It's even possible MS could boost Corel sales substantially, .... The idea of having Net being capable of emulating Linux sound s interesting but I doubt will be of great benefit. .... What'll be interesting is if they keep Corel as one co, or split it up, .... Then again maybe MS is looking for a residence across the borde

Free advert-ware , any ideasDavid, My own views are just as highly biased and ill-informed . :-o And I welcome any form of debate or feedback . As Its a www.Net type Application, I can upgrade the adds as often as I wish, And due to the nature of the software it's "{ Auto-geographically aware }", So I can distinguish between a user in Toronto and a user in Vancouver, etc. If it were not for these factors I wouldn't consider it. Hey and as I ain't based in the USA I don't have nightmares about the DOJ, Like a lot of American developers do. :-) But >>>2. Ask users to register. Get their email addresses and >>>develop some kind of meaningful and valuable newsletter. >>>Email sponsorships are much more valuable than banner >>>ads anyway, and you don't suffer the same problems as >>>you do with "bannerware" You application obviously >>>solves some problem, and you can likely come up with a >>>weekly or monthly newsletter that speaks to that problem. is a darn good Idea, Myabe , if its possible for us to eliminate the Banner Adds for those Users Who have registered for the e-mail news letter. Eg. Select your prefered form of exploitation :-) Regardz Colin

So what's the future of web advertising?I have to agree with you Brandon, But where they are more powerful is you have to watch the darn thing and you can't even flick between channel whilst the Darn ADD is playing. Regardz

Free advert-ware , any ideasDavid, Thanx for Replying, Two thoughts that swayed us towards this when we had first planned this, 1. The number of users will greatly increase if the App is free. 2. If we were to get folk using one part of our software, it'll be easier to market another App in the future. In Reply to: >> or the rates are so low you don't make any money at it.>> Either we don't have enough copies of the software in distribution or the App Isn't good enough. but: >>only to find that either people won't advertise,>> That I have no reply for. Thanx Again, Regardz Colin Davies
