You shouldn't to copy HDC handles from pDC passed OnDraw to your global variable. They'll become invalid soon after OnDraw returns, b/c pDC will be released and your CDCPoint will be useless. The usual method of doing this is to place a separator in the toolbar, make it pretty wide (200 px or so) and create your edit box as a child window of the toolbar, positioning it in the RECT of the separator. If this is in relation to your printing, you can extend the printing dialog to also ask the question(s) you have in mind, but I don't see why you'd fiddle around with asking a question and not having ANY dialog - you need to put up a static and an edit box at least, why is there a detrimental effect in them being in a dialog ? You can make the dialog close when you press enter in the text field if you're worried about people having to press OK.
