I've been reading the "Having a life and programming,a oxymoron" thread and noticed that a lot of CPIANs are married. Just wondering how old were you by the time it happened? Cheers, - xico -

Married 7 years ago, when I was 23. The tip here is: your (future) wife has to understand that you have working hours similar to a doctor. Emergencies late at night; wake up at 2 a.m. and code the solution to that memory leak, and so on. Crivo Automated Credit Assessment

Bah - I'm looking forward to every minute of it. I'm actually upset (as is she) that I have to wait that long. :) Jon Sagara What about :bob:? Sonork ID: 100.9999 jonsagara

I was 34 when we moved in together and 35 when we married. As Cathy said, getting married isn't the big time sink, having children is. We do have two saving graces though. I work from home and her parents are living with us.

I was 22.5. I'm also curious to know the relative ages of the spouses of CPians. My wife is 2.5 years older than I. At least in the U.S., I think this is unusual, as the husband is, I think, usually the same age or older. Of course I am particulary mature for my age :) My hair has been completely gray since I was about 20 :) Regards, Dan

I was 26. Marriage isn't the challenge. Having kids is the challenge. Cathy Life's uncertain, have dessert first!

26 (and 14 days) a year before, i wouldn't have thought it would ever happen. in fact i broke up with a girlfriend who was starting to hint around at the M-word when i was 25. she kinda scared me. turns out, she just wasn't the right one. funny how it works. -c

It's funny how some women so desperately want to get married that they often disregard the whole compatability issue. I used to tell my girlfriend "You don't want to marry me. You just want to have a wedding." It turns out she did want to marry me after all. Lucky me. :-D PS. I was 28. Why not throw away a dime? I throw away ten pennies all the time.

Really? I thought teenagers would want to do their own thing and it wouldn't even remotely involve their parents. Cathy Life's uncertain, have dessert first!

Actually my wife is 6 years older and I'm 34. When I met her I thought she was younger than me. She don't have one bit of grey hair - I have all the grey hair. :( Then we have a 13 year old daughter who gives me more!

I was almost 26. One of our wedding presents was a little plaque with the following words of wisdom on it ... In marriage, being the right person is as important as finding the right person. Just as an aside, dont rush into it if you are not ready .. my wife and I dated for 8 years before I felt ready to get married. I knew after a year of dating that she was the right one, I just was not ready to tie the knot .. of course the same can not be said for having kids .. If I waited "till I was ready" to have kids then I would never have had any because you are never ready for kids .. ya just gotta jump in .. but hey, your not even close to that point yet :)
