Could he become the next US president?

You are just a product of your up bringing. No offence but at 15 you still have a lof of growing up to do (so do I at almost twice your age) and over time you opinions will probably mature and change as you have different experiances in life and come accros people with different back grounds. I have taken a vow of poverty. If you want to really piss me off, send me money.

you did not misunderstand him. He brought it up as if to make out like my mom was some kinda violent nut. He, and everyone else knew what he was doing. Oh, and hippies do smell. My mom told me once that "while we all don't speak the same language, everyone in the world undestands an asskicking"

I guess if they were funny so we could laugh with you, but I think laughing at you is really not the same. My mom told me once that "while we all don't speak the same language, everyone in the world undestands an asskicking"

The real question for 2008 is, will the Democrats step up to the plate and find an even worse candidate than Kerry, or are they gonna have to rely on a popular 3rd-party to step in and help them lose?
Isnt Hillary Duff, ops I mean Clinton, going to run for them? I have taken a vow of poverty. If you want to really piss me off, send me money.
That would at least make it interesting. We can hope...

Wasn't Bush a certified Pilot since 1970?
Karl, the truth about Vietnam is that by 1970 there was a waiting list to get into non-ground combat positions. In 1972, I volunteered to serve on river patrol boat duty - I was told that there were at least ten thousand volunteers already waiting in line for the same duty. Bush probably could not have gotten into Vietnam regardless of how badly he might have wanted to. His service as an air guard pilot was just as honorable as that of any of the tens of thousands of people who served in the guard, reserves, navy and air force who never got any where near combat in vietnam. Most of whom were not the sons of rich families, but just regular middle class volunteers - such as myself . "Patriotism is the first refuge of a patriot."

Bravo and total respect.

Never mind, he admitted he didn't volunteer. Question is, if so many volunteers were available, why others were drafted?

gaddy - you're OK. Josh comes off as a button-pushing ass and I applaud the restraint in your responses. That's maturity.

Actually, it was Clinton that did that for me. I can be president and screw all of my interns in the public eye (while I'm supposed to be doing my job), lie about it, and still get re-elected! What a disgrace. Every teen-age boy in America wanted to be president at that time.

Just to be sure you know - I didn't get it, and saw no actual combat. Although, I did serve aboard the flag ship of the task force that went in to de-mine Haiphong Harbor in North Vietnam which was technically a combat mission as we were in enemy territory.
K(arl) wrote:

I said non-ground combat. There were not a lot of volunteers for being a grunt - although they did exist. Not all the draftees went to Vietnam in any case, they also served in Korea, Germany, etc. Almost any slot for officers had numerous volunteers available, as an officer's career is greatly aided by combat experience. Also slots that were numerically limited, such as river boat duty, pilots, etc, were full of volunteers. Since Bush obviously had no intention of making a career out of the military, it isn't all that surprising that he wouldn't volunteer. "Patriotism is the first refuge of a patriot."

It doesn't matter. You had the guts to ask for it. (some would say the stupidity, and it can be discussed...nonetheless I've got respect for that).

If you really are 15 then you are a lot further along than I was when I was 15. When I was 15, I was a left leaning crybaby. I took years of living in the real world to realize that my thinking was way off. I've read your posts, you seem to be on track. But of course, that is just my opinion. KERRY CAMPAIGN BACKTRACKS ON FIRST PURPLE HEART AWARD Campaign Says May Have Been Self-Inflicted
"He had a little scratch on his forearm, and he was holding a piece of shrapnel," recalled Kerry's commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Grant Hibbard. "People in the office were saying, `I don't think we got any fire,' and there is a guy holding a little piece of shrapnel in his palm." But Kerry persisted and, to his own "chagrin," Hibbard said, he dropped the matter. "I do remember some questions, some correspondence about it," Hibbard said. From the opinion articles that I've read, H. Clinton would lose the election for the Democrats. Supposedly, the analysts remark, her positions represent too moderate of a view for Democrats and ALL Republicans hate her. "we must lose precision to make significant statements about complex systems." -deKorvin on uncertainty

That is a good point. With the nation split down the middle, one camp has to win some votes from the other side to win. My mom told me once that "while we all don't speak the same language, everyone in the world undestands an asskicking"

Thank you. I am really 15, and have been homeschooled in a right-wing family pretty much all my life. "When only the police have guns, it's called a Police State."
