Hi, I've bought a house (so now I know what to do with my salary for the next 30 years), and I need some visual help in decorating etc. I previously saw a recommandation of SketchUp[^], but allthough it claims to be easy to use and so, the trial version only gives you 8 hours of work (!!!) and I don't wan't to pay 600€ for a program I'll need the next couple of months. So - do you have any other recommandations ? Preferably free, of course - but I am willing to pay something. :) Do you know why it's important to make fast decisions? Because you give yourself more time to correct your mistakes, when you find out that you made the wrong one. Chris Meech on deciding whether to go to his daughters graduation or a Neil Young concert

SketchUp is a really cool app for creating 3D model.. specially thier Push n Pull thingy.. ROCKS!! I used it about 2 yrs back.. and havent used ti since.. but do hope that these guys have imporved this tool in 2 yrs.. If you are looking at photorealistic rendering.. then SketchUp was not teh best one (atleast 2 yrs ago!) Other tools I can suggest are: FloorPlan 3D (IMSI) TurboCAD FormZ All in all.. if you are not a 3D modeling geek (or dont want to become one) then) Sketchup and FloorPlan are good enough tools. Otherwise.. turboCAD, FormZ, 3D Max are teh real thing. Hope this helps.

ooohhh... FloorPlan 3D. Why haven't I found that before ? I've just downloaded the demo, and I'll try it out asap. Looks like what I need, and its affordable as well ($45). Thanks. Btw. I was just playing with the Sketchup 5 demo. It is incredibly easy to use, but I'm not sure it does what I wan't in terms of selecting wall colors and so. But for placing furniture and generally visualizing the house (it isn't built yet) its great. Do you know why it's important to make fast decisions? Sellecting colors.. wallpaper patterns etc!! hummm.. that can be a bit tricky!! After wallpapers would be floor boards, then moulding then curtains and wot not!! Oh!! i almost forgot to mention.. then you might want to see how teh room looks in day light and how it transforms in night under artificial lights!! belive me the room really transforms, light plays tricks on colors! think about it.. 'how does my room appear at 10:00 am in July... and if that is waht you are finally targetting at then i woudl recommend a visit to www.vismasters.com[^]. And for those purposes Floorplan 3D might not come in handy.. but undoubtly FP is a good point to start with. lateron you have migrate to TurboCad/FormZ or alike...
