    Is there some tool which could compare the state of my registry, win.ini and system.ini files before and after installation of some software, so that I could come to know the changes that the software has made. I know system mechanic, but no thanks, I am not paying $50 for this purpose. Thanks and regards, Rajesh R. Subramanian

      I believe this utility might help you: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,9882,00.asp[^] It costs $5.97 for a one-off download.

          A cheap solution: Do an export of the whole registry (in a .reg file), install your app, do an export of the whole registry again, and compare the two files with WinMerge or A free evaluation of Araxis. ~RaGE();

              Yep, Sysinternals rule. This little darling will show you the changes as they happen, no need to compare different snapshots. :) _____________________________________ Action without thought is not action Action without emotion is not life

                I used to use a program called InstallSpy - which tended to crash. I now use Total Uninstaller: http://www.martau.com/[^] - it's the system change spy that you want, with the built in support for reversing all those changes. You could just dump the entire registry using regedit to a text file before and after the install and do a comparison of the two. as for win.ini and system.ini just make a copy before and compare the files after the install.
