i think i´ve got this stupid and very anoing virus. it is a virus that does two things: 1) if you press a certain letter, somethimes it will not write it 2) if you don´t it will keep writting itself So, for someone that does write a lot, like we, as coders, do, this can be very anoing. For instance, every "i" letter i´m writting now i write by pressing crtl+v (past) and i can´t even write the "(", it simple wont work. First i tougth it would be the keyboard (wich allready is an old one) but i have very recently formatted my computer and, before the format it was the "t" letter and not the "i" letter that got affected. Now, "t" works just fine; "i" and "(" don´t. i was wondering if anybody knows how to solve this, i really need an anser, i urge for an anser. Thx, i pleeeeassseeeeee hurry... hint_54 -- modified at 13:12 Monday 16th January, 2006 i have allready scanned with AVG7 (after doing all updates) and it found no virus

It would help if we knew which macro virus it is. It sounds like several word macro virus programs. It could also be a keyboard with a short across signals. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/[^] use the online scan, it will tell you which specifically virus you have, cleaning then can be suggested by shutting off macro capability in word and deleting the appropriate files, or through various virus removal tools commercial, free, or from the editor product itself. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. please first try changing the keyboard. I had a similar experience before, some keys worked once then they used to work and another set of keys stoped working. After changing the keyboard, everything worked just fine.

There certain applications that i keep in my hard drive (a different partition) that i allways install affter i formatt. Some of them are drivers, others are programs like Winrar, Acrobat Reader, etc, etc (utilities manly). But they are quite a few for me to download them again and i was trying to avoid that, offcourse that, if there is no other way, i will do it :((. Thx hint_54

In addition to what others stated I would suggest you : If this is a virus, I think after installing some good antivirus, you should not experience this problem. Anyway I would suggest you to check for some suspicious executables that are launched at windows startup and delete them. You could check them here : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

depends on what the problem is. Most modern keyboards are just a chip with a whole bunch of pressure/contact sensors. If you get some dust too near the chip, or a static discharge into the keyboard, the results are odd and inconsistant. If the short is in the cable going back to the computer, signals are interrupted and the computer does the best job it can to put the data back together. I doubt there is a single keyboard on the market that does a CRC check on every signal, I doubt any even use parity validation either. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Listen, I know you've already done this.....but reinstall your OS. Then install a good AV software and scan all fixed drives before you install anything else. However even if you formated your harddrive and install the OS this should not still happen. Your registry would be rewritten and you'd have to reinstall all apps, bringing them back to their original state (assuming that the virus effected them). I think that you may have a hardware problem. Tom Wright tawright915@yahoo.com

Couple of things truly can cause this. I'd download and run Spybot Search & Destroy (it's a real program not a farse). But I really don't think that's your problem.

This might sound stupid but I have a wirless keyboard and mouse and they will do what you describe when the batteries get low. Also, make sure you are using the actual keyboard driver for your keyboard not the one provided by Windows. Finally, get the latest driver for your keyboard. You might have installed a program recently that violated the rules of COM and put the whammy on your current keyboard driver. Updating to the latest might fix you up.

Also, I've seen heard of a lot of viruses but one that does that wouldn't really fall into the virus category unless there was a "This is really annoying" category. The other thing is if you have USB devices installed make sure you have all the correct drivers installed. Sometimes USB devices can really screw with a machine if they are not running the right drivers.

I'd bet my lunch though that this is a driver/system problem. I didn't get lunch so this is a shallow bet but I'll stand by it anyway.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on my laptop. It was the letter "T" which kept repeating itself without being pressed. Then sometimes it works fine and then the problem re-appears. I eventually changed my keyboard and the problem was sorted out - so i would say that it is a more likely a hardware problem. Cheers, Craig ** I'd rather try and fail than fail to try ;) **

Yes, you're right, it was the hardware. Thx hint_54

Maybe you're right. I tryed another keyboard and it works just fine. Now i'm with a standard qwerty keyboard, the other one was a Trust Ergo Track, also qwerty, keyboard.

Cheers, Craig ** I'd rather try and fail than fail to try ;) **

please first try changing the keyboard. I had a similar experience before, some keys worked once then they used to work and another set of keys stoped working. After changing the keyboard, everything worked just fine.

i think i´ve got this stupid and very anoing virus. it is a virus that does two things: 1) if you press a certain letter, somethimes it will not write it 2) if you don´t it will keep writting itself So, for someone that does write a lot, like we, as coders, do, this can be very anoing.

Try a new keyboard. Or new motherboard. Nunc est bibendum
