(commercial is fine) What are you using, what are you recommending? We have some new laptops that need to be equipped.

I use Computer Associates EZ Antivirus on my main home system. I am very happy with it. I've used this product, and it predecessor, for years except one year where I used McAfee and deeply regretted doing so. I use AVG on my second system. It's not bad, though the interface and how you interact with it is among the worse of the lot. Still, it's free and adequate. We use Symantec at my job. If installed correctly, it works fine. If it has a problem installing or you want to remove it, you will be in for a truly nightmarish experience. (I've never once successfuly uninstalled Symantec Anti-Virus; ultimately, I've always had to reformat my computer.) F-Secure[^] It comes free from my Cable provider with my connection. I've had a few problems early on about not being able to connect for updates, but that hasn't been the case for at least 6+ months now. Haven't had any problems with viruses it did not catch, yet. So either I've been lucky or it's working. BW

I have installed "AVG Free" on many pc's. I have had no complaints. Easy to use I would suggest trying it since its free. If you use it in a commercial setting its something like $20 a year. ~nujak

Zone Alarm Security Suite and I love it :)

If for you performance and protection are both beneficial then I would suggest you to install Kaspersky Personal Pro or Eset Nod32 Antivirus, they both offer serious protection and do not slow your PC down much. But if protection is very important to you and performance not, then I would suggest you to install Norton Antivirus or Panda Platinum Antivirus and additionaly install with above mentioned products Panda TruPrevent Personal, in this case believe me the probability that you get harmed by a virus is very low.

Using (at office) : Trend Micro Used (at home, some time back) : Norton, AVG. Would recommend : Ummm, tricky. :~ Norton did a pretty good job, but it's been 1.5 years since I parted ways with my home PC, and Norton seems to have gained a bad reputation of late. I would definitely recommend AVG, though. It was free for non-commercial use, and I think it still is. Cheers, Vikram.

Did they ever get all the issues with ssl accounts worked out in the new version? I was using until the new version of the app refused to work with my gmail account. I switched to avast, also free for personal use, which did and haven't looked back.

I have. Once. My sisters school requires that everyone on their lan use it. Her freshman year my brother went along to setup her network stuff, he ignored the 'uninstall all other AV progs' message and tried installing it overtop of the Norton that came with her laptop. Uninstalling required 3-4hrs of manually deleting every registry key associated with the two programs.

I've been using Norton for years now, but am seriously considering NOD these days. My computer in the offices started to crash every two days, and after I've tried everything I did a clean install of WinXP in the end. After one day, the crashes were back, and I found that one of Norton's processes always hangs and causes complete system instability. I tried many of their suggested workarounds but none of them worked. I remember trying to get in touch with their support for a few days with no success, so I didn't even try this time and replaced with a trial version of NOD, eventhough I had about 9 months of Norton subscription remaining. But on the other hand, I never had a single problem with Norton on another 3 PCs, so it may have something to do with a specific hardware configuration. Anyway, NOD has been suggested by some of my friends so I'm considering it for all PCs I manage now. Also, I have installed the free home edition of AVG for my father and it has been reliable so far (almost 2 years). Rado

Nod 32[^]. Doesn't hog your processor or install 3 million things you don't need. Just scans for viruses without getting in your face. Ryan

I've been using F-Prot for about a month, and I haven't had any problems with it. It's $50 for 10 corporate licenses, so the price is right, too. Jon Sagara Look at him. I will back the AVG suggestion. I have it (commercial) on 10 machines. When you get several copies the price does drop fairly quickly and you get some free central management. If you choose to do so. Also the virus updates is 2 years not one with thier product. "Simplicity is more complicated than you think. But it’s well worth it” (Ron Jeffries)
