Somehow that doesn't quite fit my understanding of "meeting" someone. Well, that's the "get a foreign bride" game. You can't enter it if you don't see this as a functional agreement. There are millions of people you can fall in love with, just because they are there. Just drop the notion of the "one and only", and "find a wife, no matter at what cost". Actually it can work quite well. These ladies come from societies where a girl is a burden to the family, and at the age westerners marry they are often "old spinsters that never get anyone anyway". They marry into a world where women are pratically equals, where they have more freedom and self-control than they ever wished for. Coupled with the "economic effects", it's a paradise. OTOH The westerner who is sick of the "I I I" attitude finds an embodiment of "good old fashioned family values".
Some of us walk the memory lane, others plummet into a rabbit hole
boost your code || Fold With Us! || sighistThe things you say are true but a bit of caution needs to be exercised. Having never met the fellow I can not say with certainty but it sounds like he is an "I I I" type of person. How callus can he be to profess to want to marry someone and then drop her because the folks at immigration put up a road block. Has he never heard of an Immigration Lawyer? It doesn’t sound legal in the US to deny a visa on the basis of not speaking the language. If that were the case many people I encountered in ethnic communities in the US would not have been able to enter. I am no authority but I believe the only language requirement is when/if you apply to become a naturalized citizen. It just sounds like he is not trying very hard, and most certainly he is not very sincere. These are real people with real feelings that he is dealing with. Whatever circumstances led them to where they are does not make them any less human or any less deserving of compassion. If he treats whomever he finally decides to marry with indifference he is on a sure path to becoming a lead character in the story I presented before. There is a sense of loyalty here in Asia that has long since disappeared in the West. Loyalty to family is first and foremost. He can either be part of her family, and deserving of respect and loyalty, or he can be a slave master and treated accordingly. If he chooses to be a part of her family there are obligations that go along with it that he will have to fulfill. If he chooses to be a slave master the story will most likely unfold according to the script. It is by no means a foregone conclusion but if he isn’t sincere she will sense it and be advised of her options from others in the ethnic community. The choice is his. It will unfold to become the story of his life. I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopes

Since both Chris and John have found love through a web-browser, see below, and I have had my fair share thanks to TCP/IP I thought I'd ask who else has? What sites did you make use of and which ones were a rip off? regards, Paul Watson Ireland Colib and ilikecameras. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!
I found love online, but it was via a friend of a friend of a friend in the chatroom of an online game I used to play, rather than through any kind of dating service -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit! Buzzwords!

Yup, that works too. IRC and blogs do well. Strangely IM has never born fruit. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Colib and ilikecameras. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

Not so strange, really. MSN, Y!, AIM, etc. all have the same problem: the vast majority of people you "meet" are people no-one wants to know... or not even people at all. You might as well try to meet new people by replying to CC addresses that show up in spam emails. ;) (not that IM services aren't fine for staying in contact with people you already know, but that's a whole different issue)

I was going to ask you how MatchMaker.com works. When does it start charging? regards, Paul Watson Ireland Colib and ilikecameras. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!
the main thing to watch out for (I found out the hard way) is that some of these sites give you a free trial period - that's great! BUT, you still have to give your credit card info, and if you forget to cancel, you'll get charged. Then when you see the charge on your statement, it's an obscure name, so it's hard to find out where it came from exactly. So keep track of any free trials that ask for a CC# and set up an Outlook reminder or something to remind you when to quit the free trial. My articles BlackDice

Yeah I have never met a new person over IM, it has always been solely about talking to people I met through email, IRC, blogs, work etc. Though I did find that for the short time I was on AIM I got a lot of messages from complete strangers, something that never happens on MSN. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Colib and ilikecameras. I would never give my CC to a dating site for free trial purposes. As you mention it can get messed up too easily. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Colib and ilikecameras. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!
