Hardware issue, need an advice...
-
I spent my Sunday evening reinstalling Windows XP, only to find after a few hours of this exciting activity that it didn't solve the issues I was experiencing! I was able to resolve 2 of them, one by updating the graphic drivers to a newer version, and another one by modifying registry, however, the last one remains unresolved. :( Hibernation does not work properly: when I try to hibernate it will go through the process, but at the end, it will only power down one of 2 hard drives and the machine will remain in the same state as suspend (power led blinking, but unable to resume). After switching off/on again, Windows will resume from hibernation without a problem... The mainboard is Asus A7V880 with the VIA KT880 chipset. I've tried all possible setting combinations in the BIOS setup, as well as updating to the latest VIA drivers, nothing changed. Any ideas? Anyone experienced anything similar? Google didn't help so far. :( I'm facing a similar issue with the suspend mode (which I don't use so it's not an issue for me). When I do suspend, it will suspend (both hard drives turned off, power led blinking) but it will not resume anymore. Any clues will be appreciated. Rado

I think I read somewhere that your hardware has to support this in order for it to work.
Some assembly required. Code-frog System Architects, Inc.

I have a similar problem with my laptop, and Microsoft told me that the problem is most likely the video driver. See if you can update the video driver. Hope this helps, Rich S

Did you install the VIA hyperon drivers? These are needed to give the os full control of the chipset on the motherboard. http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1070[^] John

Rich, thank you for your advice. I have already upgraded to the latest vesion of nVidia ForceWare drivers due to a different issue I had with my card (it's a GeForce FX 5500). It resolved my video playback issues, but didn't change the way hibernation works (or rather doesn't work) Rado

Thanks for the idea, John. Actually this was the last thing I have tried yesterday. First I have installed the original Via 4in1 drivers that came with the board, but yesterday I've tried to upgrade to the latest version of the Hyperion drivers (5.07A) but it didn't change anything. :(( Thanks again, Rado

Thanks John! So that at least means that hibernation is working on this particular motherboard for someone... :) It might be something with my hardware / cards, but I think that currently there is only the graphic card in that PC (it's at home). There are 2 harddriver and one DVD writer, and that's all I think...
