Installation Blues...

Just sitten here reading the boards while my Virtual Machine creates 2 new XP Pros so I can test and debug on clean machines.... I hate installing Windows it takes so long.... Matthew Hazlett Sometimes I miss the simpler DOS days of Borland Turbo Pascal (but not very often).

I hope you aren't installing 2 of them, are you? Install one and make a copy of the virtual hard disk. Regards, Nish

Directly after installation and installing updates, use sysprep[^] to reseal. Use setupmgr.exe to create the sysprep.inf file. Then, for Virtual PC, set the base image hard disk file read-only. Create differencing disks based on this base disk image to set up a new virtual machine derived from the base OS. You can then create a new virtual machine in a few minutes, rather than hours. Differencing disks are a bit slower than regular disks but they save a fair chunk of disk space. Consider using undo disks to revert to the 'clean' setup required for your test. Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder
