Does anyone know of some good quality c++ coding tools (including compilers)? Preferably free programs. Thanks :)

http://www.cygwin.com/ or http://www.mingw.org/ both give you access to GNU C++. Another option if you don't like unix tools is djgcpp.

Either Visual C as Nishant suggested or DevCpp http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html[^] I actually use both at home. I will buy the higher version of VC when work does (who knows on that), but the free version is good. I use the DevCPP and have been known to try a few others in order to test code for compatibility with other environments. I still like the idea of scanning posts for keywords when the user submits them, and if they match a database of common questions, just giving them a list of search results instead. It'd be an easy GM script, except it's one of those things i want to happen to other people... ;)

I have long thought we should have a member maintained list of recommended products and services. For example you and I both know the PPC-6700 will change your life ... ehem ... well sort of. It does make a few things easier...:laugh:

No, work buys compilers. We use the Intel compiler and intel VTune in VC6.0 IDE, we're trying to rewrite to move up because a 3rd party library forces us to stay in VC 6.0. Until work moves up (completely -- we have 5 copies of .Net), I play with the new stuff from Microsoft, but I won't invest $500-$1000 at home to support work when work won't have it also. :) Plus until recently I supplied the book library for work at $50-$75 a book that was not often but it made up our entire library for my last 16 years working here. I'd much rather spend that $1000 on my camera. ;) and now work just bought me about $1500 worth of a software book library. They do try sometimes. I have purchased the basic version of the VS2002(.Net) at home, when I got a really good deal.
