What would you do if a man is fighting you and will not respond to reason? My mom told me once that "while we all don't speak the same language, everyone in the world undestands an asskicking"

I suppose that all depends on the circumstances, but just the same - it's likely they would understand it if you did. ;) Better to live one day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep.

Depends on the circumstances... in most cases you agree to disagree and move on. But if one (or both) of the people in question are violent or if the stakes are high enough - it's gonna get ugly. Better to live one day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep.

It is your use of the phrase "ass-kicking", kgaddy. It has no chance of reform, it is simply vengeance. Violent and ugly. You don't even want it to reform, you just want to lay some hurt on someone. An "ass-kicking" isn't defense, it isn't prevention, it is simple thuggery. An ass-kicking doesn't give reason a chance. You just want to ass-kick someone and feel better. You, with your ass-kickings, shout "Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!" as you give it. It is easier to give an ass-kicking than reason. An "ass-kicking" is Old Testament, nothing learned from the New Testament. I am not a pacifist but I am pained at any force that has to be handed out. Sometimes it has to be, but an ass-kicking is never needed. All an ass-kicking does is breed hatred in the one whose arse has been kicked. Humilation never reformed or reasoned anything with anybody. Sons watch their fathers fall down from your ass-kicking and then they sharpen their swords patiently until they have grown up and can take revenge, to give you an ass-kicking back. Your children and my children will suffer for your lack of compassion. Your crass, brutal, make-life-easier-for-me style. Thoughtless. Your ass-kickings. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry! Wait a minute, If someone comes up to me, and want to kick my ass, and I, in turn kick his ass in self defence, I am not justified? I'm not talking about walking around and just kicking strangers' asses. I'm talking about someone treatening me, and when reason does not work, and they come after me. If they get their ass kicked they will think twice about trying it again. What part of this is so hard? Germany got an asskicking because they could not be reasoned with. Look at Germany now, a completly reformed from a Facist state. Personally, I took it as one who lives for what (s)he believes is right, even if it means dying for those beliefs. IMO the lion represents a leader or a person of action, the sheep represents a mere follower and a person of inaction. No more, no less. Better to live one day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep.

I agree that those are not threats. And I have no problem with military actions against those responsible. However, I firmly believe that one innocent bystander killed is one too many. That is, because they did not choose to take a risk, but the risk was put on them. If there is someone who says "I will lure them out and you can blow me up along with them", that is his choice. Decisions like that are noble and deserve to be accepted. If, however, there is an innocent civilian in a bus of terrorists, blowing the bus up will, IMHO, not result in a "collateral loss", but cold-blooded murder. Even if Bin Laden was in there, it wouldn't change a darn thing. That, however, is my opinion. And as things are, democracies cannot respect the opinion of every single citizen. I accept that, but it will never change my feelings. Cheers, Sebastian -- Contra vim mortem non est medicamen in hortem.
