"Farmshoring"

"Mining a Rich Vein of Software Talent One of the largest examples of "farmshoring" to date is getting under way in rural southwestern Virginia. But that being coal country, maybe this is actually a case of "mineshoring." Farmshoring, the practice of sending software-related jobs to rural areas of the U.S., has been heralded as an antidote to offshoring, in which those same jobs are sent to far-away, low-wage places like India and China. Workers in Wichita make more than those in Bangalore, but there are fewer hurdles to overcome in the way of culture, language and time zones." http://www.computerworld.com/careertopics/careers/story/0,10801,108334,00.html[^]

Do you have a spare Map Of I could borrow? Michael Martin Australia "I controlled my laughter and simple said "No,I am very busy,so I can't write any code for you". The moment they heard this all the smiling face turned into a sad looking face and one of them farted. So I had to leave the place as soon as possible." - Mr.Prakash 24/04/2004

I've read about this before under the name inshoring, and the company I'm working at now sorta counts. Johnstown pa's not really rural, even if the surrounding area largely is; but it's imploded population wise (lost 1/3rd) from the collapse of the steel and coal industries a few decades back. Nice, relatively inexpensive place to live, and not that far from major cities. 90m to Pittsburgh and 2-3(?)h from Philly and Baltimore.
