Even I thought it would take a few years before the novelty wore off - this is good news. The Conservative party were predicting social meltdown and they seem to have got it completely wrong. Now that pubs don't all kick out at the same time means there is less trouble, which stands to reason. What really pissed me off about the MPs who opposed these laws is the fact that every single one of those fuckers belongs to some private members club where they could always get a drink, no matter what time of day! It was alright for them, but not for us lowly "proles" - efftively "class" politics in action.

Talking of class. The old licensing laws are an example of how the 'educated people' decided what was good for us proles. And the fact that the supposed chaos hasnt happened is a middle finger to the rulling classes that the prole is quite capable of decideng for himself what is good and bad and how to live. Nunc est bibendum

pro·le·tar·i·at ( P ) Pronunciation Key (prl-târ-t) n. The class of industrial wage earners who, possessing neither capital nor production means, must earn their living by selling their labor. The poorest class of working people. The propertyless class of ancient Rome, constituting the lowest class of citizens.

Nope, I read "Brave New World" and figured "1984" was probably just more of the same. Somewhat interesting but not really my cup of tea. Better to live one day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep.

This is winter time, when it is wet and windy there are always less people going to the inner city pubs and people don't tend to hang around in the streets looking for fights or smashing up shop windows. Wait until the summer comes, then gauge how effective it has been.

Binge drinking is our heritage. We don't want to be sophisticated Europeans. We want to get thrown out of the pubs completely pissed at 11 so we can be sick and have a fight. hic hic snnkk... Are you gonna bark all, day little doggy. Or are you gonna bite. - Mr Blonde

serious violent crime was 21 per cent lower in the final three months of last year than during the same period in 2004 They are comparing it to winter 2004, not to summer time.

That has nothing to do with the new drink laws, serious violent crime has been falling in most areas for some times.
