who has problems with this page? I constantly receive errors like: "Not enough storage is available to process this command." "the server is busy" e.t.c. or other asp errors. My answer to my last post also disappered after the move of my last thread in the server nirvana :( Chris

Well, in all fairness, CP is doing quite well given that the # online seems to have roughly doubled since last year, when we were plagued with all sorts of problems. I've been getting an occasional error lately, but occasional is way better than the near constant problems the site used to experience. Marc Pensieve

no, you're not the only one. I am also being plagued with "you must be logged-on to post messages" errors when I am already logged-on.

why doesn't CP just used a 'tried & true' Forum software package ???, instead of this home brewed mish-mash ???

I'd like to see one. DotNetBB is pretty solid, but I'm not sure it can handle the volume. As to others, I tried for my own website, and true they are not. CP's forum is "branded", as it were. It has it's own look and feel. Personally, I like it. I despise forums where I have to click to see every thread/subthread, where I have to click just to open a topic, etc. That said, I suspect tomorrow CP will have a whole new forum look! But as to usability, I haven't found anything that touches CP's forums. Of course there are people that don't like CP's forum format. So, you can't please everybody. And besides, the problem probably has little to do with the forum. I get errors equally well from the home page and articles. Hopefully, the days of the ads bringing down the whole site are over. Marc Pensieve -- modified at 13:32 Thursday 16th February, 2006

Well, this "home brewed mish-mash" is by far the best forum "software" I have ever come across. Its style and layout are excellent and you don't have to scroll all over the place to find the responses to posts like you do in most forums. And, added to that. The people on the forums probably account for a very small proportion of those people online at any one time. The vast majority of people using CP would be reading articles, downloading samples, etc., so any problems related to load would be coming from there, not from the forums. I wonder what the volume of just the forums is actually. Forums would probably cook if they just had the forums run on a single server with a single database. That is, only the forums, not the message threads on all the profiles and articles, would be best to keep those as they are, but branch these public forums out on their own so they are not hindred by all those site snachers out there ;) Rocky <>< Latest Post: SQL2005 Server Managemnet Studio timeouts!
