Does anyone know of a free database (Sql Server) admin tool like Enterprise Manager? Any suggestion would be great. Thanks in advance Andy -- modified at 8:24 Monday 20th February, 2006

If you're using SQL Server, you can use SQL Server Enterprise Manager, surely? Why would you need a free tool?

Well I'm using MSDE to develop a project at home and have Sql Server on my website hosting package. I don't have a licence for Sql Server (or tools) for my home projects. So I need a free admin tool.

Ah, OK - I was just interested in case you had specific technical reasons for not wanting to use SQLEM.

I use TeraTrax http://www.teratrax.com/[^] Albeit, it isnt free but it is fairly inexpensive ($100). It works with SQL 7 and MSDE 1.0 (or higher for both) up and including SQL Server 2005/Express and allows you to create/restore backups as well as write stored procedures and perform other DBAdmin functions. I spend ALOT of time looking for low cost/free MSDE administration solutions (there are quite a few out there) and nearly all were missing some feature or another (usually creating backups). This is the one product that I found met all my needs (as well as my clients) when working with MSDE. I have no affiliaton with TeraTrax other than being a satisfied customer of theirs. David

I have used some of the tools from EMS[^]. Not the one for SQL Server, but happy with others. "Every new day begins with possibilities. It's up to us to fill it with things that move us toward progress and peace.” (Ronald Reagan)
