GDay all, I was just thinking the other day hell im getting old! I still use Emacs, allmost in the same form as i used it when I started programming for money in 1984!!! Is there any consensus for what is the best C++ programmers editor around? Cheers Dave

Well, you didn't say what compiler nor OS ... if you're talking MS C++, use Visual Studio. Others (all Win32 applications): Dev-C++[^] - nice UI, implements "packages" for various frameworks, APIs, etc... TextPad[^] - straight forward, you can hook this up to just about anything with a command-line compiler

Well, I'm using a C++ library where all the ~16000 header files are in one folder (don't ask, please). XEmacs is the only editor I know which is able to handle such a big list for "C-x C-f"'ing a file in this directory. But usually, if I'm not in the IDE, I'm using SciTE.

MultiEdit[^] should be able to handle files that large ...

Source Insight[^] is the only editor for me.
