Been using AVG[^] for anti-virus: free and seems pretty good. You could just get the Microsoft Action Pack[^]: you get everything for a couple-hundred pounds: full and legal XP Pro, Server 2003, SQL Server, Office Pro, Project, Visio etc, etc. www.merrens.com

I was looking into the Action Pack late last year. AUD$700.00 here, I have a valid company and paying that each year wouldn't be beyond my ability to pay. But I couldn't be bothered getting a Passport account to look into it, before I could even look into if I was viable for the pack. I use Nero. It has many more options on it than Roxio's stuff. So, if you know what you're doing it's great. And, it's cheaper to buy it on the web than at the store with all the packaging that you'll throw away anyway. I'm not sure if this is what you were talking about, but... It doesn't convert .img files to .iso (that I know of). It'll burn .iso though. The upside is there are a few free utilities on the web that'll do that (although I generally use IsoBuster just to extract the data rather than convert). So anyway, I have been getting legal and all with my and my wifes software of late (phucking Microsoft, shrinkwrap on the Windows XP Professional packaging was too tight, so the package was warped and so too was the Certificate of Authenticity, so it doesn't sit or stick correctly on the computer). So I am now looking for free or cheaper software to replace the dodgy stuff I was using. Windows XP Professional- now legal Office 2003 - now replaced with OpenOffice 2.0.1 WinZip 9 - Legal and on the Wifes WinRAR 3.5? - Buying next week for me Norton SystemWorks - Any recommendations on an AntiVirus and Utilities? Currently using none. CD/DVD Burning package - Image to iso or similar would be nice DVD Playing software Email - going to use Thunderbird, can it read/import .pst? Any other recommendations? FWIW, Winzip 10 just came out. And they finally got the right idea by having more compression options (even more than 9s). It does a better job than WinRAR IMO, but WinRAR still supports more formats. Unlike past versions, it's not a free upgrade from 9 although you do get a discount. Jeremy Falcon

Haven't looked at the upgrade price (didn't see it actually) but WinRAR is (from memory) USD$29 while WinZIP is USD$49. So getting WinRAR is cheaper and allows me to use my WinZIP 9 license on my wifes computer. Where as buying the upgrade to 10 would not. Windows XP Professional - Same OpenOffice 2.0.1 - Same WinZip 9 - Switched to ZipGenius[^] WinRAR 3.5? - Switch to ZipGenius Norton SystemWorks - Comcast offers McAfee for free. They're all the same. CD/DVD Burning package - Nero came with my machine. Email - Been using Eudora at home forever and have no interest in anything else. Don't want email to include everything. How about replacing both with 7zip. http://www.7-zip.org/[^] It has a better compression algorithm and it is completly free. John
