How to load a 5000 item dropdownlist in the background?

How? Best Practice? I successfully set a dropdownlist's outerHTML using the RSexecute method in javascript (thycotic). However, the control does not hold state when posting back. The dropdown is declared at design-time with EnableViewState set to true, but setting the outerHTML is seems to lose the option list as well as the selected value. I tried to set the innerHTML of the dropdown control but that fails as well. Any other ideas? And no, there is no way to filter the data except by a character filter which the users are not interested in. The list consist of commonly used ships & barges in the gulf coast regions for transporting petroleum products. Unfortunately that can be done. You can however do this: split the list up between serveral hidden fields. Once the page is loaded. Use javascript to slowly build the list. Thats your only option without a major change to the design 1 line of code equals many bugs. So don't write any!!
