Well neither is this statement helping me\/ if you suck at programming, why don't you find something else to do with your time. I hear they're looking for more church-burning teenagers... no I know how to make an rpg i just need help with a few thiongs mainly an invotory thing, and being able to equip things to your guys Slayer
You need to calm down and stop acting like a spoiled brat. It's about giving and taking. You just don't start demanding help from other people. Learn how to program first, then how to apply your knowledge to solve tricky problems such as RGPs. That's what the rest of us did, why can't you?

....:(( Slayer -- Moved to the soapbox at 16:02 Thursday 9th March, 2006 by AdminIf people cannot help you then they tend not to reply. This is not because they are not listening to you but because they don't know the answer. It would be very noisy here if someone posted a question and got a reply from every member saying "Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question". Sometimes people need you to clarify your question, as happened in a previous thread. But, even after that clarification it is no guarantee that someone is able to help you. Again, the lack of replies isn't because people are being rude, it would, as above, get very noisy if you got a reply from everyone reading it saying "Sorry, I still can't help you".

That is a great thing. However, trying to build a role playing game is a massively complex task. When I was 16 I tried and I managed a very simple game (on a ZX Spectrum, if you are curious), and also I should say that I'd been programming for almost 8 years by that point. I've never tried making a role playing game since. If you have just started programming then I would suggest you start with something simpler. For example, I've just bought a guitar so I can learn to play. At the moment I can play 3 chords and it takes me quite a few seconds to switch between them and then a lot of finger adjusting so that the notes sound good. If I went on a guitar website and said "I just started learning the guitar. I want to play Bohemian Rhapsody like Brian May, how do I do that?" I would most likely be laughed off the forum, or at best given the advice that I have a long way to practice yet. I would suggest that you have a long way to practice before getting into complex systems like RPGs. I would suggest starting with simpler games like noughts-and-crosses or hangman[^] and build up from there. So, learn to walk before you run, work through tutorials, design and build simple programs that demonstrate some aspect of an RPG game (In another post you mention an inventory - so learn about collections, arrays, lists and so on) and eventually you can start putting all that together and actually create an RPG game. I hope this helps.

Look, I'm 19. I started coming to this website 4 years ago...when I was 15. Want some advice? Learn how to type properly. Most of us have very little tolerance for this idiotic "txt spk" where every instance of "you" is abbreviated to "u". Learn to capitalize. Learn to use punctuation. These are basic things they teach you in high school. Don't come on here and start whining about how nobody is listening to you. Don't demand help. If you ask for it, and you don't get it, then odds are that nobody has the time or energy to invest in learning this byond system to help you. But complaining about it makes you look like a spoiled brat. Also, you posted a request for help with code in the Lounge, clearly violating the nice red text at the top of the page saying that you should not ask programming questions in the Lounge. We don't look kindly on people who can't follow such basic directions as that. And if you don't take time to read the basic instructions, you're not going to be a very good programmer.

No. None of us know how to program for this byond system you keep talking about. We do development with real world programming languages like C++, C#, etc. Regardless of whether or not byond uses a similar language to script their games, we would still have to invest time into learning the environment. And that's time that, most likely, none of us have or are willing to spend on this system.

Wrong. Byond is a script kiddie program. It doesn't enable you to make real games. Real games are written in real languages. Not some byond scripting language.

First, what you meant by "I suck at programming" was "I suck at programming". At this point, you're much more mature than most Visual Basic "programmers" that refuse to admit that they suck at programming. In the end, though, you still suck. Find another profession and pay someone from rent-a-coder to "help you with your game". Second, I'm more than 3 times older than you, and here's some help with the math - you're 16, so 3 x 16 = 48, and since I'm older than 3x your age, you can assume I'm older than 48. Now, go work on your times tables. Third, I haven't lived with my mother since I was in the 3rd grade, I've never played DOD, I've put my life on the line for my country, and I've been a programmer since long before you were a dull imitation of a twinkle in your deadbeat father's eye. Ok? So stuff your game up your ass, little boy, and go back to picking your nose in the corner. When an adult wants you to speak, we'll smack you in the back of your pointed little head with a shovel. ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'.
