Guys, is there a way, when we could know when the person I sent email, read/open the email? I believe someone told me that it can, long time ago.

If you're using Outlook, you can turn this on when composing a message using View -> Options -> "Request a read receipt for this message". You can enable it permanently in the options somewhere, but I can't remember exactly where.

Don't you by any chance mean that trick with images, what spammers are using? :) Never forget: "Stay kul and happy" (I.A.)

Yes, when Outlook prompts me "A read receipt was requested, do you want to send it?" my answer is always NO and DON'T PROMPT AGAIN. :) -- LuisR

There are pay services that do this but they just use the spammer trick. They embed their image in your email and voila. If it's that important a phone call is probably best.

No it won't. In Outlook 2003, go to Tools Options -> Preferences tab -> E-mail options -> Tracking Options, and at the bottom you can choose how you want to respond to read requests. Select "Never send a response" and you're done. -- LuisR

Beautiful. I am absolutely going to go do that now. That stupid message box is irritating. I have no desire to let people know when I've read their mail.

Just curious why u call it a spammer trick. May be the spammers use it, but whats really against doing it.

Because they made it popular. And because maybe 90% of that trick's use is in spam mail. And because it's blocked by default by e-mail clients like Outlook. -- LuisR

It's monitoring your actions on your computer and it's reporting them to one or more collectors without your permission. How would you like it if someone attached something to your home/apartment that told total strangers when you came and left. I refer to it as a spammer trick as it uses a method of notification that did not involve getting/obtaining my permission or allowing me anyway to unsubscribe from their services. I should be able to request that their services not work for my email address at all and I cannot. Nobody has any right to know when I have read their message without my permission. All of the above was stated conversationally. What do you think? Do my reasons validate my {tagging} it as a spammer method? I'm curious to know what you think... - Rex

well, there is a reason why for example outlook doesn't load images by default. If you set url of image to dynamic page, like src="http:\\mysite.com\index.aspx" and that dynamic page will know that someone viewed that email (page_load). Ah, and of course it should return image as expected. Don't try that at home, kids :~ Never forget: "Stay kul and happy" (I.A.)
