not to be taken the wrong way or anything but ... is it such a big deal to be a woman programmer who can actually write good code? kinda just get on with the job ... making a fuss about it is like admitting its a strange thing and kinda makes the guys in the industry think like they do ... ie programming is really a guy thing just my 2cents worth and all coding is coding is coding --- "every year we invent better idiot proof systems and every year they invent better idiots ... and the linux zealots still aren't being sterilized"
I was actually expecting Paul to be the first to jump up and start slapping some sense into the guys. ;) You're absolutely right, lauren. I've a (female) friend in Sydney who can out code almost any one I know (and probably beat the crap out of anyone I know as well, since she's a kick boxer) and it's odd that people think it strange that she is a programmer (just 'coz she's a girl) cheers, Chris Maunder

Greetings !!! I am a new member of lounge but the difference is that i am a female. I am aware about code project for about 2 years, however i never tried to post something at lounge since i always feel that it is a male dominated corner of this portal. However i try today..... For my brief introduction, i am a VC++/Assembly software developer mostly engaged in softwares related to device drivers and palm devices. Hmmm.... its astonishing that how a girl can be a VC++ developer. In the company i work, there are 21 VC++ developers among which 16 are female . ;P If you want to know more about me see my profile here Saima Ali
She is a liar. In fact she is not she but he. His name is Imran Farooqui. I got her/his mail address from codeproject and checked the MSN profile. It matches with the mail address but the name is of a boy. Secondly I live in Karachi too and palm devices are not used extensively that someone would require too develop apps. and he is a member of CodeProject since 1 October 2001. I am 99 percent sure its a lie. LIAR LIAR LIAR. There cant be any company in Pakistan having 16 gals out of 21. IMPOSSIBLE. These are the kinda guys who try to spoil the name of my country. In my dream, I was dorwning in my §orrow§ But my §orrow§, they learned to §wim

They pamper you with attention. 2. We're all doing the same job, gender doesn't matter... 3. What else? Some disadvantages: 1. Usually when girls get together, we all talked about boys.. but since, I'm the only girl in the room, can't talk about it... it's awkward to talk about it... 2. There's a pressure...I have to show them that what they can do,.. I can do it too... or even better... because, I don't want them to think that girls are weaker than boys... 3. Salary differences maybe... although, I have no idea how much some of them are getting... Well, Anyways that doesn't bother me right now.. all I want is the experience and the knowledge I could get with the company and thru studying... and then, if I get all those things, then that's the time I should decide what to do next..... :-O :-O :rose: Samantha:rose:

Well, doing programming is a pressured job.. specially when you need to meet the deadline for the project... For me, I have to make it a point that I do my job very well and finished it within the frame time... With regards to your question...well, I guess it's both... job is a big competition, you have to do your best to be on the top...;) :rose: :rose: Samantha:rose:

But whats suspicious is that in Karachi the chances of finding a company with 90% female programmers is almost zero Nish

Welcome to the lounge! >> 21 VC++ developers among which 16 are female + (profile) >> North Pakistan No wonder I never met a geek girl in my live*... I always considered Pakistan "liberal islamic" - but the 15:21 ratio seems to tell a different story. So how is it?
*well, there ok, one, but "squishy battle axe" is more descriptive than "girl"

I'm out numbered by quite a bit. I'm one of the few guys where there are more women than male programmers. Ist not bad though, and it keeps the sick jokes to a minimum. Welcome all the same. CP's a good place to be, and lots of smart people to learn things from. Giles
Giles wrote: I'm out numbered by quite a bit. I'm one of the few guys where there are more women than male programmers. same with me. Mine is a small company. The graphics team is all men. But the 4 programming teams [3 java and one win32 team] which together has 18 programmers boasts of 12 women :-) Nish
