Beta Software

Hi all, I've been writing some software in my spare time and am almost ready to let people download it in some sort of beta testing phase. Do any of you have any tips about launching a beta test program? I'm going to offer free licences of the product as an incentive, but how do you get a good number of people to try your stuff out (and give feedback)? Any good websites, tips or ideas would be a great help. Thanks in advance Andy

doBasically it does batch image processing, but with lots of extras like ftp/database/file stuff. I have a version at the moment that is doing ok, but this new version is miles better. I could put a link to the current version website here, but don't want to be flamed for placing an ad. I can email a link if you are interested. I need some testing, but don't have much cash to spend on it. So beta testing and free licence give-away sounds a good fit for me. Just need to get some people interested. Any ideas?

it's more a marketing question than a beta process question. That said I would be interested in marketing tips as well :-D

Well anything to do with image/photo manipulation/management is hot-stuff so I think you would do well with word-of-blog/mouth. Politely introduce it via email to some of the photoblogs out there. While writing for a photoblog I used to get plenty of email from people pushing their software, services and websites. Don't make it spam but don't be too afraid to pimp your product. Normally if you show you customised the email somewhat it helps. Tie it into one of their previous posts for instance. What is the link? Examine orientation My heart just started beating faster. Seriously, if that feature works as advertised then that is fantastic. I do plenty of image resizing and that would help a lot. Looks like a pro-tool to me, nice interface, powerful looking features. I'd beta test it. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry! I would be interested in the beta test too. FYI.... on the home page.... usually doing operations is a "snap" not a "snip". Unless you was trying for a play on words....but I didn't get that sense. Why is common sense not common? Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level where they are an expert.

based on the screen shot of the new version, and what it seems to offer, count me in if you are still looking for testers! at this rate you could easily pull in enough beta testers to keep you busy for a while just from the lounge :) zen is the art of being at one with the two'ness
