(This is based on an actual experiment conducted in U.K.) Put eight monkeys in a room. In the middle of the room is a ladder, leading to a bunch of bananas hanging from a hook on the ceiling. Each time a monkey tries to climb the ladder, all the monkeys are sprayed with ice water, which makes them miserable. Soon enough, whenever a monkey attempts to climb the ladder, all of the other monkeys, not wanting to be sprayed, set upon him and beat him up. Soon, none of the eight monkeys ever attempts to climb the ladder. One of the original monkeys is then removed, and a new monkey is put in the room. Seeing the bananas and the ladder, he wonders why none of the other monkeys are doing the obvious. But undaunted, he immediately begins to climb the ladder. All the other monkeys fall upon him and beat him silly. He has no idea why. However, he no longer attempts to climb the ladder. A second original monkey is removed and replaced. The newcomer again attempts to climb the ladder, but all the other monkeys hammer the crap out of him. This includes the previous new monkey, who, grateful that he's not on the receiving end this time, participates in the beating because all the other monkeys are doing it. However, he has no idea why he's attacking the new monkey. One by one, all the original monkeys are replaced. Eight new monkeys are now in the room. None of them have ever been sprayed by ice water. None of them attempt to climb the ladder. All of them will enthusiastically beat up any new monkey who tries, without having any idea why. This is how any company's policies get established. It should be noted that constantly challenging all our inherited preconception is a huge and unrewarding task (worth many thousands lifetime of work), and more often than not useless or plain wrong. Therefore we have better or more interesting thing to do. But we are many billions. Some ideas wich deserved to be challenged sometimes gets challenged.

How that got in there I will never know. But click my blog link below to see the whole picture. It will keep you on CP but you'll see at the top of my blog the results of me asking CP how you would say "Welcome to CP" in your language. I got many responses and some people gave me the unicode encoding of their language so it appeared in their character set.

Overheard in clients: Question: "So country music doesn't make you want to get down and boogie?" Response: "No, it makes me want to clean off the bottom of my shoe." I just have to say that's about one of the best statements regarding country music I've ever heard. Welcome to CP in your language. Post the unicode version in My CP Blog[^] now.

Hey, I don't see the Unicode version of Marathi - didn't you get the two Word files I mailed you? Your sig still has the English transliteration. Cheers, Vikram.

Not yet. I finished a deadline yesterday that just about killed me and I'm quite sure it shortened my life. I'm trying to regroup now and will get to that soon. Sorry for not being quicker.:-O

Did you email me the unicode? Vikram emailed me the unicode equivalent. I don't know dutch nor do I have the dutch language installed so you'll have to email it to me using the email link that's part of the CP reply functions.

No my current signature (is below) and I've been using it for a few days if not more. How that other signature (now deleted that HimaBindu was quoting) got there instead was beyond me. Quite strange in fact... - Rex

I've created a monster... Just Kidding... Okay, as long as this thing is alive I'll visit the 3 different messages on it and pick up the latest posts. It's going to get long though. I imagine I'll make a page showing all of them and then anybody can have them or do something fun with them. I bet there's a few people here more creative than I that could come up with something good. No worries though. I'll get *everyone's* in before it's over just have to give me a chance to do it. - Rex

Did you email me the unicode? Vikram emailed me the unicode equivalent. I don't know dutch nor do I have the dutch language installed so you'll have to email it to me using the email link that's part of the CP reply functions.
