What's everyone cramming into theirs ears, musically speaking? I've been on a big Techno kick the past week or two. I can't get enough Orbital, Future Sound of London, Infected Mushroom, Karsh Kale, Midival Pundits, Robert Miles, Conjure One, Eat Static and Amon Tobin. I discovered Eat Static and Infected Mushroom this week. Both are very cool. Eat Static takes an ecclectic mix of styles, but turn them all into something techno/dance. An interesting listen. Infected Mushroom on the other hand, derive their sound basically from Trance, but add some funky and bizarre sounds, melodies, and effects. Much more musical than most trance I've listened to. A great find. BW

-- Steven WrightI've gone a bit local which is not like me at all, but I am liking it. This is thanks to the Murphy's Live 2006[^] band contest. So The Chalets, Ashley Sheehan and the Mute, The Walls and Philtre. It is quite cool meeting the people behind good music. Getting to see their live gigs, having a pint or ten with them and watching them being normal folk before hopping up on stage and going mental. It helps that my housemate is a bartender and she knows everyone. If you have iTunes then there is a free sampler disc available[^]. Most of the bands EPs and albums are on iTunes too. Bought that one a few months back. Not too bad, it's growing on me with each listen. I like the opening, where he's telling a story about the plane crash. The recording sounds very intimate at times, like they are playing in your living room. BW

One label in particular that grabbed my attention is "Border Community" of James Holden. which is available on the Warp mp3 store ( bleep.com ) with a very strong release of Nathan Fake, "Drowning in a sea of love" ) Have a listen of James Holden 2 mix double CDs ( "Balance 005" and "At The Controls" ); those 2 mixes are getting on the top of my list of best ever DJ mix ever done, with Digweed and Sasha Renaissance Mix CD ( 10 years old, and still the best ever, no contest ). Also, what rocks my boat, in a more ambient style are most ( if not all ) releases of the "Fax +49-69/450464" (yeah, that's the name of the label ). also, recently, the latest CD from Émilie Simon ( who did the soundtrack of the movie "The March of the penguins" ); nice pop-ish french singer, with a touch of electro, a touch of Tori Amos and/or Bjork.

I always enjoying going to watch local bands, I just don't do it enough. I'll try to remember to listen on iTunes. I just listened to the new Massive Attack single Live With Me", which I think is on Collection. Great song, if a bit melancholic. Has sort of that rainy night drive feel, if that makes any sense. I guess they are supposed to be putting out a new full length CD this year. BW

I haven't listened to either of those, so I might be off on what you like. I'm guessing you're into Progressive trance. You might want to try, early BT, John Digweed, Sasha, Faithless, Delerium, non-Bunkka Paul Oakenfold, DJ Tiesto, maybe even Juno Reactor or try this mix CD[^] BW

It was enough to make your eyeballs shake amongst other things :wtf: Check out any of the ex-Planet Dog bunch: Banco de Gaia, Children of the Bong, Timeshard. The Feed Your Head compilations have some excellent chilled out techno on them, with II being the best of the series IMO. If you're into FSOL then Global Communication's 76:14 is an absolute must have. Other favourites: BT, Hybrid, The Crystal Method and the mighty Underworld (not done a duff album yet). Astral Projection do the Goa trance thing very well and there are a load of mixes floating around the net if you search hard enough.

Yeah, I'm new to the party with a lot of these bands, but better late than never, eh? I didn't realize Eat Static has been around that long. I'm currently listening to Crash and Burn. I need to find some of their older stuff too. I like Banco, BT, and GC's 76:14 is great. Crystal Method's Vegas probably really got me into the whole scene. Underworld is good, but I prefer a bit more variety in the tracks. I listened to some Astral Projection, mostly from Amen, and was bit underwhelmed, but maybe Goa just isn't my thing. I'll try to get some of the other's you've mentioned. thanks. BW
