You ever listen to any of the Future Trance or Dance Planet albums? I really like electric / string trance, and I'm always looking for good recommendations on albums / artists.
I haven't listened to either of those, so I might be off on what you like. I'm guessing you're into Progressive trance. You might want to try, early BT, John Digweed, Sasha, Faithless, Delerium, non-Bunkka Paul Oakenfold, DJ Tiesto, maybe even Juno Reactor or try this mix CD[^] BW

What's everyone cramming into theirs ears, musically speaking? I've been on a big Techno kick the past week or two. I can't get enough Orbital, Future Sound of London, Infected Mushroom, Karsh Kale, Midival Pundits, Robert Miles, Conjure One, Eat Static and Amon Tobin. I discovered Eat Static and Infected Mushroom this week. Both are very cool. Eat Static takes an ecclectic mix of styles, but turn them all into something techno/dance. An interesting listen. Infected Mushroom on the other hand, derive their sound basically from Trance, but add some funky and bizarre sounds, melodies, and effects. Much more musical than most trance I've listened to. A great find. BW

I can't get enough Orbital, Future Sound of London, Infected Mushroom, Karsh Kale, Midival Pundits, Robert Miles, Conjure One, Eat Static and Amon Tobin. I discovered Eat Static and Infected Mushroom this week. Both are very cool. Eat Static takes an ecclectic mix of styles, but turn them all into something techno/dance. An interesting listen. Infected Mushroom on the other hand, derive their sound basically from Trance, but add some funky and bizarre sounds, melodies, and effects. Much more musical than most trance I've listened to. Those evil buggers nearly made entire festivals soil their trousers back in 1995 by embedding a massive low frequency wave in one of their tracks. It was enough to make your eyeballs shake amongst other things :wtf: Check out any of the ex-Planet Dog bunch: Banco de Gaia, Children of the Bong, Timeshard. The Feed Your Head compilations have some excellent chilled out techno on them, with II being the best of the series IMO. If you're into FSOL then Global Communication's 76:14 is an absolute must have. Other favourites: BT, Hybrid, The Crystal Method and the mighty Underworld (not done a duff album yet). Astral Projection do the Goa trance thing very well and there are a load of mixes floating around the net if you search hard enough.

Yeah, I'm new to the party with a lot of these bands, but better late than never, eh? I didn't realize Eat Static has been around that long. I'm currently listening to Crash and Burn. I need to find some of their older stuff too. I like Banco, BT, and GC's 76:14 is great. Crystal Method's Vegas probably really got me into the whole scene. Underworld is good, but I prefer a bit more variety in the tracks. I listened to some Astral Projection, mostly from Amen, and was bit underwhelmed, but maybe Goa just isn't my thing. I'll try to get some of the other's you've mentioned. thanks. BW

I'm less of a fan of the studio Astral Projection stuff myself. The mixes, on the other hand, get played a lot when I'm cooking - I put a proper stereo in the kitchen when we had it rebuilt :-D Early Eat Static is a little different, more floaty, less jazz influence. Abduction is considered a bit of a classic. Don't bother with Science of the Gods, they lost the plot with that one. I didn't dare try them again until In The Nude popped up second hand for £3. The early singles are also worth it if you can find them, again up until Interceptor :~

Yeah, they are moving up the list quickly. I've been listening to ConvertingVegetarians today, a 2CD extravaganza. It's a bit all over the place stylistically, but it works and is quite impressive. Now I thought Goa was more likened to straight-up trance, very repetitious with subtle changes. But I've seen IM labelled as Psy-Trance, which is supposedly a branch off the Goa side of the Trance tree. Whatever it's called, it rocks! BW

-- Steven WrightAt the Drive In are more straight-ahead hard-rock (the influence of the band members who becamse Sparta in the ATDI split, I guess), but they've got Cedric's lyrics & vocals and Omars lead guitar. The best album to start with is their last - Relationship of Command[^]. Give it a listen, if you can, it's really very good, IMO.
