Stingray, Rogue Wave, and Scot Wingo
-
Ever since the Stingray - Rogue Wave merger the Stingray products and support have gone to the toilet. Where did Scot Wingo end up? That guy was incredible with MFC and his support of the product, but Rogue Wave cotinues to drive this product into the ground. Try and contact these people for info on upgrades and it ends up in cyberspace. It's extremely frustrating. Anyone know of some good competitive upgrades with a better product? Objective Grid is a great product, but the current support is down right crappy.

Anyone know of some good competitive upgrades with a better product? < Looks around in fear that any second Dave Cunningham is going to storm into the room, twead jacket and all> Seriously though - Dundas Software, CodeJock and BCG Software are all putting a ton of effort into MFC components and all work very hard to ensure that customer support is a priority. Take a peek at the banner ads around CodeProject and check them all out. They are all great companies. cheers, Chris Maunder

He created another company, sold it for 160 million and currently runs: http://www.channeladvisor.com/ As for the products I think that they have no developers left: Press release They also shut down the Stingray Site that they had in the RTP, North Carolina area. And for some reason they do not plan to have these nice products on .NET/Windows forms. Post on Rogue Wave forum Regards, Suresh

Hey Robert, I probably should just stay quiet, but there's something about the Lounge that just makes that so hard to do .... During our heated competition with Stingray, I developed a deep admiration for Scot. He really did make things happen and gave me a hell of a run for my money. ;) Was Scot an amazing MFC guy? I don't think so. I think he was a very astute businessman, but his core strength was in developing and executing a plan. I think a lot of the skill you attribute to Scot in raw MFC development really belongs to George Sheppard. George is a quiet guy, who is scary smart, and did (in my humble opinion) a lot of the heavy lifting in that relationship. When Stingray sold out to Roguewave I was both upset and happy. On one hand I new that Stingray having 60+ sales people would cause us some grief, on the other hand I knew that Stingray's $4M in sales would not carry much attention in RogueWave's $60M portfolio, and would therefore be neglected. Scot has done well, after he left Roguewave, he started a company called AuctionRover. AR was later sold to GoTo.com for $181M primarily in stock. After Goto's stock crashed along with the rest of the dot-coms, Scot, Aris, Michael and their team arranged to buy the company back, and now it's running as ChannelAdvisor. Overall the MFC marketplace is just too small to interest RogueWave in the long term. They make too much money in other places. Most of the guys you knew as the Stingray team are long gone, even I have trouble keeping track of them. Even though they were our blood enemies, I miss the heat of our competition, and the beers we shared at trade shows :) FWIW, We'd love to have your business. We're still very serious about MFC and the interests of C++ developers who are moving into the .NET framework. If you're interested in a competitive upgrade, email Jake (jaket@dundas.com) and tell him you'd like to know what he's willing to do for an Old Stingray customer who'd like to find a new home.
