Under the Telecommunications (Interception) Amendment Act, the Government will be able to access communications not only between the B-party and the suspect, but also between the B-party and anyone else. If you have unwittingly communicated with a suspect (and thereby become a B-party), the Government may be able to monitor all your conversations with family members, friends, work colleagues, your lawyer and your doctor.

More than ever, watch what you say[^] I knew I should never have started emailing that dodgy Maunder fella. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

    W. T. F. :wtf: Does it only stop at one degree of separation or does it recurse?

It seems to stop at one degree though I would think if they check out B-Party's email and find them suspicious the B-Party can then become an A-Party. That could recurse if they are too liberal with suspecting people. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

Nah, that'd never happen  Good grief. Australia was always a country that followed in America's footsteps but this is ridiculous

Yep, I've looked at encryption many times over the years but it's pointless unless everyone else uses it  And if and when it ever became widespread, the government would just outlaw it anyway :-(

Why am I now fearful of the old "six degrees of separation"? By this I must somehow be talking to someone who knows someone who is in touch with someone who is a relative/friend of someone who is a 'B' if not a suspect! Arrrrgh! Chris

The latter, AFAIK. It looks right now. I could have sworn it was wrong when I last saw it, but maybe it was a problem with the browser. :~ Cheers, Vikram.
