My Vista Experience

I left vista to install on my machine yesterday night. When I came in the morning my monitor was displaying BSOD. After 1st reboot I got the message that the activation failed and so I had to call MS to activate as the computer was not able to connect to the network. To add to the injuries the DVD ROM drives are still not recognized. After every shutdown I have a BSOD. So I decided to revert back to the normal windows as I had a disk image. The problem the norton ghost emergency recovery cannot detect my hard drive. It is a Dell XPS machine. So I had no choice but to start vista and magically the network started working and I am posting this message from it. Now I need some way to restore a 12.5 GB image. Ghost is not working on Vista. I wonder if there is any solution other than install XP and then install Ghost and then restore the image. I knew what I was getting into when installing vista and I had all the precautions taken but unfortunately it was not enough. But there is one thing to say that the UI is awesome when it works. I wish it was a little stable. Probably I will try the next CTP.
Try using BartPE (You can install ghost into it)... http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/[^] Worked OK on my Dell i9300... (or has your XPS got a SATA HD?)

If you stick to high-school english then yes you are right. If you get out of simplified text-books though you will find it is perfectly valid. I rather dislike using exclamation marks to be frank. If you stick to high-school english then yes you are right. If you get out of simplified text-books though you will find it is perfectly valid. I rather dislike using exclamation marks to be frank. The content is Ok (though they seem to have an anti-MS bent), but the over-use of exclamation marks makes it look very puerile. Makes me wonder if you have to be below 16 to sign up at Digg. :^) Cheers, Vikram.

The solution is simple - but sadly it won't work retrospectively: don't use Ghost (or any other Norton product for that matter). I admit I'm just parading my prejudice ... but is based on real experience. Phil
I agree, one of the many things I remember most about norton products is the blue screens let alone the load of registry keys the products create.
