Loosing 10 pounds in a week?

Is it possible? I don't work out regularly, so I can't suddenly execrise too intensily. I can only do some sit-up and push-up right now. And I only eat dinner. What else can I do? Any tips?
Chill out, Dude! You're becoming neurotic over this date. She's obviously interested despite your perception of you being overweight. One of the things I've found awkward on first dates is finding topics to talk about; geeks tend to care about things no one else does, and it's hard to make small talk over dinner. Focusing on learning her interests, rather than talking about things you like, is usually a good ploy, but sometimes she doesn't want to talk about herself. It can get very suddenly quiet when that happens. Perhaps a good thing to keep as a backup topic would be how you have been thinking a lot lately about changing your lifestyle into something more healthy. Rather than obsessing about unhealthy weight changes, strike up a conversation about your desire to get into shape and live a healthier life. If she's the hottie you think she is, she probably can give you a few tips. She might even pitch in and join you at the gym just to encourage you, and that's a great chance to see her more often. It's also a great incentive to keep going to the gym!:-D Don't try to lose the weight in a hurry - burning off the water is a terrible idea, as dehydration leads to a number of severe health problems. And trying to go from zero to enough exercise to burn fat at that rate is going to cripple you. Make it a lifelong program, and present it as a work in progress. Good luck! I just wanted to add to what everyone has said. Don't try to lose that much weight that fast. You will lose muscle and water weight like that. All that is going to do is increase your body fat percentage and you won't have as much muscle to help you burn calories, so you will be in worse condition then when you stared. A long term healthy lifestyle is the only way to stay healthy.

Not really. If you'll remember that one pound is equal to 3500 calories, by dropping your caloric intake by 500 calories per day, you can drop one pound per week. If you also increased your activity level at the same time, you might could increase that to 1.5 pounds per week. It gets a lot more detailed than this, but this will at least give you some insight to start your own research.

Is it possible? In the first week or two yes, it is very possible. I have done this several times in my life. Using cardio, weightlifting and diet pills (not at the same time!). But as others suggested this will be more of loosing water than loosing fat. Also after the few weeks you tend to get a diminishing return for your same effort. I don't work out regularly, so I can't suddenly execrise too intensily. I can only do some sit-up and push-up right now. Niether are very effective in the quick weight loss you are seeking. You need to do exercises that get your heart rate up. But depending on your age and health conditions you need not overdoo this, Please! Maybe for starters a 1 hour walk each day. And I only eat dinner. This may be a problem as it means you probably can not reduce this but it depends on what you eat. Try eating more vegetables and less red meat, more chicken, less fried foods and more baked foods. John -- modified at 11:11 Monday 17th April, 2006

"Breakfast like an Emperor, lunch like a king, supper like a pauper!" You should not skip breakfast at any cost - that's what dieticians say. In my persoanl experience, if you follow the above, you won't feel very hungry at the end of the day and a small serving of fruits for dinner will make you feel good. 2 pounds a week is the usual maximum. Any more than this, see your doctor. The tigress is here :-D

No, loosing water weight is a bad thing.
I guess it depends on the size.... I remember when I first started dieting loosing 10lbs of retained water was easy and released a bit of strain off the ankles. 10lbs of water weight was nothing special above 400lbs. Hopefully he will listen more to you. :) _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Talk about things of tomorrow and the mice in the ceiling laugh. (Japanese Proverb)

Yeah I guess there's probably a trade off with that then. I hope you decide to keep at least a little water in ya at least. :-D

I think when someone asks "how can I loose fat for a date" they really don't want a change, they just want a patch job. That's sad really, because I'm sure you know by now it's the mind that controls the body, not the other way around (well, maybe unless you got your arm chopped off or something, but ya know). Yes, it's called an amputation :-) Don't even think about it, losing a lot of weight in a short time: - doesn't last. You'll put it all back in no time. - can be very bad for your health, especially your heart. And if you want to skip meals (bad idea anyway, you should aim for a life style you can maintain for the rest of your life), dinner is the one you should choose. Breakfast is essential and lunch is a very good habit :-) Try to find things you will enjoy or not miss much: get extra regular exercise ("regular" is the important word here, it doesn't need to be hard), replace part of the excess coffee, soft drink and chocolate bars with water. Avoid stupid fat-free, sugar-free, whatever-free diets. The trouble is that your body gets used to your "current fat level". Any variations are "analysed" and "acted upon", but weight increases are usualy accepted. Any weigth losses, on the other hand, are perceived as "dangerous" (less resources to use in emergencies). The result is that you'll get cravings and stress on top of the fact that usual diets are based on missing things you enjoy. You need to make the change gradual and allow your body to get used to the new state. best of luck OGR

10 pounds of water is no problem. With everything else: do you intend to stay separated from it? If yes, forget the 10 pounds mark, and do some more fundamental changes. Check your diet, work out, and fire up your excel sheet[^] You don't tell me it's not because of that insanely attractive girl
